years ago in my men's league there was a d-man on one of the teams that played pro in europe back in his younger days. he would let shots go from the point and when they'd hit my pads i could feel the shock wave from the puck hitting my pads hit the bones in my legs - it was the weirdest feeling.
i can't imagine getting in front of some of the bombs that current nhl players shoot

He is 26 away from tying and 27 from breaking Gretzky's record.
The Caps have 48 games left this season. If he can keep going how he was before the injury, he should still be able to do it this season.
If not for the injury, there would have been a good chance he could have broken the record against the Flames, but now that's unlikely. The Caps are in Calgary 16 games from tonight and the Flames are in Washington 23 games from tonight.
