I agree, it should. But didn't that already happen against the Flames this season? Season opener I believe?

Exactly because the Canucks had control and therefore there was a scoring chance. You can't call it differently game by game, NHL officiating is bush league

Mistake by the official to whistle the play dead when there was an imminent scoring threat. Weegar was sending him a message that he made a mistake that cost the Flames a probable goal, and the official didn’t like it.

Refs got it wrong the first time and right this time.

I am all for players safety and that is a dangerous play.

Not to mention it was the Canes player who buried the Flames player into his own goalie

Wrong, you have it backwards.

When a goaltender loses their helmet, facial protector, blocker or trapper, or skate blade, the play will be stopped immediately, unless there is an imminent scoring chance that does not pose a safety risk to the goaltender.

The goalie is out of position and there is a wide open net. The Flames had possession, the whistle should not have gone and Weegar should have had a goal there.

Doesn't matter. Once the mask is off the play needs to die. I don't care how the rules are written, it needs to be changed to that.

No problem with that penalty.
Watch the replay. It was played beck to the slot, right between the faceoff circle.

Edit: it was played to the edge of the faceoff circle. Still an imminent scoring chance IMO.

I agree but currently that is not how it is written. That is a blown call by the officials

It's blown that quickly because it is a non Calgary based team.

It is blown that fast because nobody understands the rules, especially the officials. Even the war room doesn't know the rules. It's the worst league in pro sports for rule clarity.

The refs should allow kicked in goals too. Don’t care how the rules are written, refs need to allow those goals.

Its just frustrating when the letter of the law hurt us game 1 and then they call it wrong the other way. Canes also caused the mask to come off.

Mostly because it's actually not easy to do.

I'd consider it skillful but also adept use of angles when it's a redirect.

Trying to determine a kicking motion leads to too much grey area. Allow it altogether and the problems go away.

Goaltender out of position, defenders out of position, player with unopposed possession at the inner top of the circle. Puck was in the net within 2 or 3 seconds of when the whistle was mistakenly blown. Scoring chances don’t get much more imminent than that.

Having said that, dumb move by Weegar. Officials don’t like to be shown up, and they have the ability to punish those who do. And no, I don’t but that he didn’t hear the whistle.
