If they move Draisaitl does McDavid stick around?

I really doubt it. I don't think either of them want to be in Edmonton past their current contracts.

The thing with Crysaddle is, if you have August as the deadline, why would he negotiate after the season in April. You came this far, you obviously didn't get it done prior so why not go test free agency.
I am sure if he remains unsigned teams will make moves to clear out cap space to make a move for him.
The Flames are here to help you send us 1st round picks a bad contract so you can chase him.

Now that would be awesome. Hey Dallas, send us Benn for a year and a 2nd so you can sign Draisaitl

Sign Bouchard to his $10+M deal now so you control the narrative, Stan.

That's exactly what he said on the radio this morning. Basically can't have two unproven guys overpaid in the same room as veterans who have taken discounts to be there.
He's actually correct, but it's hilarious that the narrative has swung 180 in 24 hours!

With the offers the Oilers made, the term was high, but the dollar amount is probably fair for unproven players. They screwed it up by trying to tie them for longer term and low cost incase they had better years.
Kind of feels like both players may have wanted out, especially based on the offers. Broberg has been in the AHL pretty much his whole career, and is now getting 4.5M a season.

Note to all NHL teams: do NOT hire Doug Armstrong's mom to be your GM.

It’s not that fascinating. What it is, is exposing that Draisaitl’s ask is so high that they wouldn’t be able to afford his huge contract next year if they matched on Broberg.

Boy the delusions of Oiler fans never cease to astound me. They've somehow managed to turn this into the greatest silver lining and the organization is seemingly playing 4d chess while the rest of the world is still learning checkers.
This is all so very MAGA cult like.

I wonder if as late as yesterday the Oilers were going to match the Broberg one. But maybe the likes of McDavid and Draisaitl chimed in and changed their mind. Something along the lines of you traded a guy we like who wanted to be here to keep a guy who doesn't...so the Oilers than begged the Blues for a future 3rd to not match the Broberg one.
The moves on Sunday to me indicated they'd let Holloway go, but we're clearing space to keep Broberg. Ceci is not great but he could play with Nurse and let the rest of the team outscore that problem. Not sure this current group will offer that. Sure they can beef up later for the playoffs...but if they don't cobble up a 16 game win streak that might not be such a sure thing.

|
The new signings just make up for Kane and Foegle scoring from last season. Neither are going to take time from the current players on the PP so you will probably see a drop in production from Skinner and Arviddson as they do a lot of their scoring with PP opportunities.
Their D will probably be worse (haha) without Ceci and Broberg. Holloway with further development would have allowed Edmonton to not worry when Perry and others are gone. What young guys will now replace the old fossils next year?

Not really a surprise though, and the ask doesn't even have to be that high.
The only expiring contracts the Oilers have are:
Draisaitl: $8.5M
Skinner: $3.0M
Perry: $1.15M
Brown: $1.0M
Ryan: $0.90M
Bouchard: $3.9M
Emberson: $0.9M
Neal: $1.9M
Carryover Bonus: $3.55M
Campbell: +$1.2M (his buy out hit actually goes up from $1.1M to $2.3M)
So they have $23.6M to re-sign those two guys, and 4 others.
Even if you put in the other 4 bodies at league minimum that is $3.2M.
Now you're down to $20.4M to sign Bouchard and Draisaitl in a flat cap, lets assume about a $3M cap lift. So it goes up to $23.4M of space.
Even if you conservatively say Bouchard is $9.5M and Draisaitl is $12.5M...you'd be barely able to fit theme in because that would take $22M.

The Oilers are still screwed but I think the cap lift will be 5 million. Gives them a little more space. But the space will be eaten up by the fact that your numbers are too low for both players. If Austen Matthews signed for 13.25, Draisaitl will sign for more.
Matthews last 4 years (pro rated over 82 games)
62 goals 45 assists 107 points
Draisaitl
49 goals 69 assists 118 points
Draisaitl will be looking for north of 14 million in his new contract.

Something about offer sheets too is (AFAIK) we only hear about those that end up signed by the players, not the ones that are offered and rejected.
For all we know there could be a few of these every year that just don't go far enough to need matching.
