I'm not sure how it indicates anything either way. Could also say he intends to cash in as a UFA and doesn't have faith that his current agent can get him what he wants based on discussions none of us would have any idea of.

It could mean that. But the time to start talking extension is in 7 weeks which would give the new agents time to get familiar with him and talk about what he expects. The time to start talking about UFA is 7 weeks plus a year from now. If it was about looking at extension, the time to change would be now. For UFA it could be now, but wouldn't have to be.

His former agent got him a 2 year $10M deal off the back of 39 goals and 74 points in his first year in the league, so it’s not unreasonable that he doubts the rep’s ability to get him long term security.
Kuzmenko can sign as early as July 1 - at the very least, it would seem to indicate an interest in talking business with Calgary.

Its probably less pointed in either direction than you guys are thinking. It's likely as simple as
"big crossroads in my career, flames need extension this summer or they trade me. Maybe I want to sign this summer, maybe I want to test UFA next year either way this is the time for better representation".

Why would he punish an agent that got him in a much better place where he is used more and a lot happier?

Punishing him for convincing him to sign with Van in the first place.

Can’t skate can’t hit. One dimension. Should be an easy sell, and buy a better pick with retention.

Am sure Kuzy would rather be living in Vancouver helping to win playoff games but has made the best of a tough situation getting more opportunities in Calgary to earn a big contract.
Maybe he is upset at how the trade went down or even being convinced to sign in Van in the first place, but also could just be making an upgrade before negotiating what will likely be the largest contract of his career.

Everyone knows why you hate him and it has nothing to do with his hockey performance. Maybe just avoid Kuzmenko topics.

Great skater and hitter. I absolutely let myself be blinded. I’d trade Bedard for him.

If there’s one thing we can all agree on, it’s that the Flames need a 29 year old winger who is below league average at creating chances in zone and can’t skate or hit. On a long term deal. Max contract, preferably.

And here it is folks, someone actually believes in king nerd jfresh and his analytics, this is the same idiot who says point shots are a complete waste of time because of the low percentage of goals. I doubt the guy ever laced up a pair of skates.

Do you have analytics to share?
There isn’t a FanGraphs of hockey.

I remember when the Flames acquired Phil Housley, I think the second time, Brian Sutter said something about Housley being a one-dimensional player, but it was a dimension the team really needed. That's kind of my thought with Kuzmenko as well.
Whether he wants to discuss an extension or not, I don't know. I do think that short of signing a real sweetheart of a deal, Conroy is probably more inclined to keep building his value through the season and then trading him at the deadline. Hopefully he can add to that Lindholm trade tree and get another 1st rounder if Kuzmenko can carry on where he left off last season.
Conroy mentioned wanting players in a specific age group and not wanting to sign older UFAs to long term deals at this point in the Flames building process. So far, Conroy has done everything he said he would and I think he sticks to his plan. Kuzmenko will almost certainly want a long term deal and isn't in that age group, so unless the deal is a real discount, I don't see it happening.

If anything I would bet that it is because gold star pushed all of the players to time their contracts to expire with the cap rising. Who knows maybe Kuzmenko had a long term offer from the Canucks he didn’t take on the advice of his agent.
Either way unless he is willing to sign another short term deal then I hope he is traded. No interest in him on a long term deal when the Flames already have Kadri’s and Huberdeau’s contracts to deal with.

Why are those stats under a Canucks logo? Is this a snapshot from the time of the trade?

Are you? I think it has become rather obvious you hate the Calgary Flames and if you don't you probably should.
