It doesn't matter what MY workplace is like! That's the whole point.
This is supposed to be a AAA, premier in the WORLD organization. Simple mistakes like this call into question their basic competency.
It brings to mind Motley Crue's contract rider when playing events that there be a bowl of M+M's with no brown ones placed in the green room.
If they went in and there were brown M+M's they had their own staff go out and re-check all the pyrotechnics. Because clearly, the event organizers weren't reading the specifications, and the band could be killed by an errant firework.
If they are f-ing this up, it raises the spectre of what are the bigger things they are making a mess of?
It was Van Halen! What an egregious mistake! Heads should roll!

I dunno, like buying a bunch of land and finding out there they don't have rights to the Montney after the fact? I don't think the M&M analogy is very additive to Sutter's argument very much though.
Is it possible Conny (and his team) early on realized the agent wasn't aware he was not eligible for that contract and played stupid? Eat the PR hit to eventually save some $$ when the eventual contract was signed? Now he's committed and will sign for less a day later?
Definitely something Murray Edwards would try and succeed at. Similar to how he greased Gondek for the arena deal.

Given his age, it was probably the normal timeline of four years for his undergrad and two years for masters.
It feels super rare to see college players that are graduate students though.
Also, the COVID impact is huge, he also switched schools along the way. Courses not accepted at the new place, changed majors, who knows.
I don't know if assuming it takes an extra few years to complete a degree makes someone dumber is something someone with a degree would think. Not very logical at all. Especially not considering the circumstances.
I'll tell my oncologist buddy who spent 12 years in school he's an idiot because he switched from engineering after the 4th year.

It's a meaningless, easily correctable mistake. Frankly, the bigger mistake was announcing before the league confirmed. And maybe the league could have let the Flames fix it and announce the change later.
Yeah, I have no doubt that stuff like this happens occasionally and we just never hear about it. I don't see it as a big deal, but maybe next time hold off on the announcement.

Haha that’s not a good analogy. More like entering into some small inconsequential quitclaim agreement and then finding out you need to go back and do a quick amendment to fix it. Like this mistake should take about 15 mins to fix.

I should note that my comment was not at all to imply he was dumb, and sorry if it came off that way. I don't think that years in school proves anything about intelligence.
I was more ribbing the entire profession of human resources in general but it was meant to be light hearted. In retrospect, moving to comment on his lack of production in college hockey and mentioning that it doesn't track well for NHL production made it seem more predatory than it was intended.

Remember when you did that though? Haha. Just kidding.
I'm more thinking of the angle the agent is the one that should be worried. This is inconsequential to the Flames but could be very consequential to the player.
Flames side, I could care less, but if I was Dad Morton, I'd be quit pissed.

The fact that he was offered and signed an invalid contract likely means were no other serious suitors for him as presumably this would have surfaced. So while this is obviously not some egregious offense, I remain kind of perplexed as to how the Flames and his agent weren't more knowledgeable on this.
Clearly they should have used the SPC-001T5 from rather than the ELC-005TP. If anything this benefits the Flames as they got him to sign the ATO. If he is good enough they can sign him to the SPC. If not, they move on and he becomes a UFA and signs where he wants.
