At this rate, they'll have to fold the franchise and hold a dispersal draft pick.
San Jose will get the player.

Publicly they issue press releases about LOI's, land auctions and new building renderings.
But if you look at their actions, it seems pretty clear what is happening.

Hard not to feel bad for fans of the franchise who naturally want to believe in what they are saying.

I'm sure the NHL wants nothing much to do with this ownership group anymore. But they could make it a very messy and protracted situation I imagine. THey see how much NHL franchises are worth.

The Coyotes just signed forward Sam Lipkin to a three-year ELC, so the bit about not being able to sign anyone does not necessarily appear to be well-founded.

So the Oakland A's are going to be playing in a AAA stadium in Sacramento that seats 15,000 (half of their current study capacity) for the next 2 years before moving permanently to Vegas. Nice to see the MLB is also doing embarassing stuff and not just the NHL!

Why wouldn't they just play out of their current stadium?

They had 13K attendance on opening day in Oakland

With half of those people staying in the parking lot.

The A's situation seems quite different than the Coyotes. Apparently the mayor of Sacramento sees this as an audition for a future expansion bid. Which is maybe how Phoenix fans should view the Coyotes.

I saw highlights this morning of the Canucks game at the gym, and it took 30 seconds to realize this was a NHL game. Absolutely embarrassing arena, and franchise.
How are the other owners allowing this clown show to go on?

The other (and arguably more important) difference is that the A's owner actively wants to move the team to Vegas, whereas the Coyotes owner wants to keep the team where it is to use as a springboard for an entertainment district. The two teams are kind of a weird circus mirror.

Seems like a good move by the owner to get into Vegas before someone else does, especially given the attendance challenges they've seen in Oakland based on what someone else noted.

Maybe an exception for draft picks that need to be signed before losing them and the cost to keep them is small?

You're in the club now. You should engage Seravalli and get some deets!

How was the deal fair in your opinion vs what he got in Sacramento?

Lot's of blame to be shared, and he is an unlikable guy publicly.

But Oakland is a ####hole. The muni gov't has no money and needs to prioritize spending. Crime is terrible. Yes...Fisher hasn't put money into the coliseum but neither has the city (owned 50/50 if i recall?). Raiders left. Warriors left. But ya...it's Fisher that is the Weasel.

The A's are one of those situations where everything has just deteriorated.
The ballpark is crap, the team is awful and the relationship between the owner and city has fallen apart. And so attendance is awful.

The short term deal being offered by the city though? Of course the owner is turning that down.

What I don't get is, if you're going to play in a AAA stadium, why not do Las Vegas where your own farm team is playing? Get a head start in that market. Something is fishy here. My sense is they don't ever end up in Vegas.

Watch the Royals end up in Vegas, the Chiefs head to St. Louis and the A's stay in California.
And the Coyotes to SLC this summer. Obvs.

No roof is brutal for ballplayers in the Vegas summer. MLBPA would do everything possible to prevent it.
