This, alas, is true in most areas of life.
If you give me a jar of vitamins and it says on the label, ‘95% CYANIDE FREE’, I am not taking those pills.
(The worst posters on CP are not cyanide, to be sure. But even the best ones aren't giving you any essential nutrients, so there you are.)

That Boston package is pretty underwhelming. Hard pass.

Only the goalie and one or two other players got any real experience out of it. Maybe the coach, too, but none of those other players learned anything from those playoff battles.

Hanifin isn’t resigning with us. Would this deal be underwhelming if he was a rental?
I think it’s a great package for us trading 2 months of Hanafin

I like Poitras a little, bit of a muffin shot, see's the ice well and is a good passer but he just had season ending shoulder surgery which is always a worry.
Do you like Jesperi Kotkaniemi?

If a player would sign for $9m for 7 years, he's very likely to accept $8m for 8 years. It's only an extra million for his 35-year-old season, but he has no guarantee that he'll still be able to play at that age. The team shaves a full million off his cap hit, which makes him easier to trade if necessary, and may be necessary to make an offer of that size in the first place.

The better you get at that, the closer you get to a Matthews contract, where they’re actually worth big money while they’re a superstar. $10x6, $11x5, $12x4.
Then you leave the retirement contract to someone else.

Maybe as the throw in to make the cap hits even out, but yikes if he’s the main piece.

Not as the only piece but a 23 year old center who is a good passer will at least get the conversation started in my mind.

I'd take Mercer or Lundell 10x over Kotkaniemi. Pass.

If flames are taking on his (Kotkaniemi) $4.8MM Cap hit for 6 more years there must be ALOT more to the pieces.
Although if he tops out at 3rd line C, that's good value moving forward. I haven't followed him, is he defensive or is that a liability in his game?

Kotkaniemi is a "safe" low ceiling/high floor type of acquisition IMO
Not interested personally, I'd rather see the Flames take some home run swings that might end up being future stars even if it's riskier.
