I mean, NJD just lost a C and D yesterday to personal absences. A deal could have been there. Anything would be better than nothing, and again, with Lindholm likely headed out if they don't get a C back, that seems somewhat short sighted.

Meh. Replacement level players are replaceable.

It sucks because I think Ruzicka still has a lot of upside and can put together a decent career. It doesn't look like it was going to happen here and I get that, but I can't help but wonder if he at least had some trade value. Arizona obviously sees some potential there and has a tonne of draft picks. I hope calls were at least made around the league before putting him on waivers, just to see.

While I'd have liked to hold on to Ruzicka for a little longer, it was pretty clear his future in the NHL wouldn't be with the Flames. Limited icetime under two different coaches now, and when he has been moved up the lineup a bit, he hasn't really taken advantage.

My head says this sucks in terms of asset management, but my eyes tell me it probably won't be a big loss.

yeah, but if we end up trading Hanifin and Tanev, someone has to be out there ... granted, Oesterle is terrible and will help the tank, but having a RH option like DeSimone would have been preferable IMO.

Does anyone remember who we got for Zohorna last year?

...

It was Hunt, who's 28. Granted, he has been playing well for the Wranglers, but is this the type of asset that you're looking for?

Players will be coming back likely plus guys who haven't had a chance in the AHL

The important question is who gets Ruzicka's number 63?

Eh I feel like Ruzicka was not really given an opportunity in the top 9 on the Flames. Not a fan of losing him, but Flames just do not have space in the top 9 for him and he is useless as a 4th line center so not much that they could have done there

Ruzicka, as a 4th round pick, still played over 100 games for the Flames. A good pick for Calgary. Credit to him as well.

Arizona is spinning their wheels. And they have two Flames castoffs. One which they don't play on a regular basis and one which they probably will regret playing.

Ruzicka is an RFA with arb rights. So is Valimaki. Chances are decent they are not Coyotes next year.

Not surprised that Ruzicka was claimed. Valimaki has been a good 4/5 defenseman for the Yotes; they're probably hoping that they strike "gold" again with Ruzicka.

Very surprised that DeSimone was claimed. The Devils must be desperate

Not like they have a superstar lineup. There are plenty of ice cold guys to cycle out. Would've been nice to at least see him get a shot, since he did pretty well with the last one. Seems unnecessary is all, on a team with very little scoring ability in the entire organization.

A 4/5, really? Not sure about that.

also closes the book on the Flames 2017 draft class.

1-16 D Juuso Valimaki
4-109 C Adam Ruzicka
5-140 R Zach Fischer
6-171 R D'Artagnan Joly
7-202 L Filip Sveningsson

Fischer hasn't played since 2019. Joly is playing tier 3 hockey in Germany, Sveningsson continues to play in the Allsvenskan.

still disappointed that D'Artagnan Joly didn't pan out at all. What a ####ing name.
