Maybe someone could message Bingo and ask them to have a fundraising thread and let us know how much is needed to keep the site going without pop up ads.

First off, we have no idea if he’s looking for ways to keep the site going or just trying to get some more cash in his pocket. I’m fine with either because it’s his site, and like you say we get to use it for free. The problem is the way he’s going about it is very annoying and makes the site harder to use.

A fundraiser would likely be successful. I hope it happens.

Sorry everyone ... was on my face with covid for 5 days.

Not looking for a fundraiser, just changing ad servers to a more efficient and recommended option.

I've had them turn off what Photon is calling the two most annoying ad types.

Beyond that I'd just request some patience and some understanding with minor disturbances. An ad type that is slightly annoying, but not the end of the world for example may be a good landing spot for everyone.

I think for 20 plus years I've avoided cash grabs and egregious ad types, and I don't wish to change that at all.

I’m still getting the full page ads but if they’re going to be gone I’m satisfied. The banner ads are fine.

One question I have, and this is only a “nice to have” thing, is there any possibility of getting a forum software update? There would be big improvements in security and mobile integration. The aforementioned fundraiser could pay for the software and photon’s time. Again, the board works fairly well as is, but a boy can dream, right?

I've been looking at hosted forum software options so yeah would like to get migrated so something not ancient.

CP is one of a handful of sites for which I disable my ad-blocker. Unfortunately, until this gets figured out I have it re-enabled because the formatting and oversized advertisements are too intrusive to enjoy the site.

I WANT to give you financial support. I will be happier waking up in the morning knowing I contribute directly to a site I care about.

Just post the invoices of what it costs to run the site and have people donate to make it up. I don't think it would be unrealistic to cover the costs this way.

The Ogden Legion is vacant but used to host Stampede Wrestling (or so I'm told) and I know the Property Manager, I could probably set something up.

Plus it would have that chic 'fist-fight in a vacant building' mystique to add to it.

We could set up a Webcam for a live stream and get Jiri and Mango to call it live.

I've got a folding table somewhere around here and I'm sure we could get some folding chairs for the inevitable finale.

Plus you can probably break whatever you want in the building because I'm relatively certain most of it is broken already. You smash a pane of glass? Who is going to notice?

You might have to fight various other Hobos and Vagrants at the same time as it is quite close to the train-tracks, but thats just an eventuality that cant be helped.

If I may, a couple recommendations if you do switch the site over to another platform:
-The ability to post a photo to your post without having to host it elsewhere
-Ignore functions that work when the ignored poster is quoted
