My preference would be to have wolf start year in ahl. Have the season start, let him find his groove with much less pressure, get lots of reps in...and then call him up when you need him to be the go to goalie or want to put him in a run of games.
With Zary, I'm okay with this too. I think starting the year with coronato, Schwindt and Hunt is three guys who haven't played a lot of NHL hockey in last 3 seasons. So the flames will already have three less experienced players they're working with to start the season. I think Zary will get his chance later in the year once the other guys have either become acclimated or get sent down.

You can't trade Markstrom he has no interest to leave, Flames either ride out the remainder of his contract or buy him out. If he has another poor season I expect a buy out in the summer, im hoping it doesn't need to come to that.

Players are sometimes cut because they don't need to see the player anymore (they know what they are getting). With Zary, they probably love how he looked and know he's the first call-up in an injury situation in the top 9.
Other players they sometimes need to see more of because they want to know if said player has a future with the organization or not.
Cuts aren't always performance based.

I dated a classmate in college who was close friends with Kidd’s girlfriend back in Manitoba. When Kidd was sent down to the minors after his first camp with the Flames, she told me that he was pissed off at the team. I told her he shouldn’t be, that it was the right move for the organization to make. She passed my remark on to Kidd. He wasn’t impressed.
That’s my Trevor Kidd story.

It’s not like Wolf forced their hand here.

There is also no question that Wolf understands exactly what is going on, and knew this is how this was going to work out even before the start of Training Camp.
This is Wolf's last year before he is waiver eligible—of course the team is going to take advantage of that. Why wouldn't they?
But then, next year Wolf HAS TO start the season on the Flames roster. He knows this. Everyone knows this. Regardless of what happens this season, the job is his in 2024.

I remember my cousin telling me he knew a guy in Winnipeg who knew Kidd and he said Kidd couldn't stand Pierre Page.

You're young. That was the style in the 90s. I remember a lot of the hockey players in my school did that.

PP was an old-school dickhead like Sutter, except unlike Sutter he was also a dick to normal people.
He would regularly pick up pizzas at the Pizza 73 I used to work at. If the team won he'd be in a good mood, but if they lost he was the biggest ####head you'd ever come across.

I'd say Vladar had the two toughest matches up pre-season too.
In Seattle against a tougher Seattle roster with a Flames team with very few NHLers, and in Edmonton against pretty much their full lineup with a handful of NHLers.

Vladar got hung out to dry. Letting in 5 goals in 13 shots sounds bad, but the Flames gave up consecutive powerplays, including an extended 5-on-3. After the 5 goals on 13 shots, Vladar was shelled and let in only 2 goals on the next 31 shots. The Flames were 33% on faceoffs, were outshot 20-44, and took 7 penalties to Edmonton's 3.
It would have taken a vintage Kipper to keep that game close.
