Not a cynic, but I would call you uninformed. This "Gondek personally killed the arena" thing has been thoroughly debunked in the other 5 arena threads. Give it a rest.

I've been to LA Live a couple of times in the past two years and I experienced the same thing there as in Edmonton. They have a little zone with some bars/restaurants that experiences a bunch of activity before the game, but the area as a whole isn't benefiting greatly from an event center.

I live in Oliver and that's really the best of both worlds imo. I walked to the Oil Kings games the other day but don't get the post Oilers game flood onto the streets.

In the agreement the province $300 mil for transportation and $30 million for the community arena is the max coming from province. Any overruns will be need to be covered by the city.

Yes, I was there back in February the day Andersson was hit by a car. Absolutely the best sporting venue I have been to (And I have been to many NFL, MLB, and a lot of arenas). I will be there in a couple weeks when the Flames play Detroit to meet up with any CPers that want to take a scouting trip!

It's political wordsmithing. Arena and Project are the key differentiators in those statements. The government will contribute to the project.....but their contribution won't go to the Arena building specifically.

That $ is for 'infrastructure' around the arena site, as well as some money towards the community/practice rink inside the complex.

They cut the Q&A session short after the off topic question. So have to wait on some clarifications.

Mercedes Benz Stadium in Atlanta is cool but not too familiar with anything else HOK has designed, anybody know of any smaller arenas? Just see the one in middle east on their site which is fairly underwhelming looking.
