Klapka was pretty good. Coronato had a couple of flashes of excitement. That's about it though.

Frankly even the Radomsky let in a couple of iffy ones, but when you're getting shelled it's hard to judge.

Ciona falls an assist short of the Gordie Howe hatty.

Thought stromgrem, coronoto, and ciona looked good at times, defence was really struggling but wasn't half invites? Overall not a great game for the flames but I think there are positives to take away.
Was impressed with ramdomsky tonight despite the late collapse. Is he signed to an AHL deal or was he just a PTO?

Yan Kuznetsov has never impressed me in the AHL but I figured he'd look better here. Nope. On par with a lot of the invites by my estimation. I just don't get how a player of his age and draft pedigree can look so lost in the offensive zone playing against teenagers.

Wow, just got home, saw the score and that doesn't look great. I didn't miss much did I? Should I even bother watching?

Not a great game. Team was very disjointed and struggled to get out of their own end while being majorly outshot. Some observations nonetheless:

FORWARDS

42 Sam Honzek

Quiet overall. Skates well. Good hands, puck protection and physicality. Great one touch pass to the slot to Diotte in the second but he couldn’t convert. Good backcheck at one point using his long reach.

86 Rory Kerins (A)

Made a nice play from behind the net to find Coronato in the slot. Seems to think the game and positions himself well but seemed to lack the speed, strength, and accuracy to be truly effective tonight.

39 Matt Coronato

On every loose puck. Anticipates where the puck will be.Tenacious. Skating was quick and powerful. Driving the puck to the middle of the ice to make plays but nothing to show for it today. Conroy said he was 2nd in physical testing at rookie camp.

65 William Stromgren

Seems like he’s trying to figure out what his role will be in the pros. Looked a bit lost. Great bursts of speed. Flashes of acceleration and toe drag but couldn’t get a shot off. Trying to make things happen but looked awkward at times.

77 Ilya Nikolaev

Good defensive positioning at times. Tried to make plays but was largely unsuccessful. Seems smaller than his listed size. Their line didn’t seem to have much chemistry.

87 Parker Bell

Raw. Good speed and physicality but lots of work to be done. Sloppy in the first period at times. He and Stromgren found themselves going to the same spot at times. Their whole line was a bit awkward.

74 Lucas Ciona

Played a strong game on the boards and is a battler. Scored on a rebound from a Klapka shot in the second. Great defensive play to create turnover that led to goal. Good awareness in the d-zone. Got in a fight.

73 Jaden Lipinski

Took a tripping penalty. Great zone entry with speed and puck control in the second off a turnover that led to a goal. Good speed and pressure on the forecheck. NHL frame and long stride helps him cover ice quickly.

43 Adam Klapka (A)

Physical. Lots of hits. Some good plays in the o-zone and some scoring chances. Lots of puck touches. Good on forecheck. Good speed for his size. Took a hooking penalty in the o-zone. Great patience in the slot to out wait a shot blocker that led to a rebound goal for Ciona. Took some face offs. Handled the puck with confidence. Tendency to shoot first. Look for him to hang around main camp a while.

56 Oliver Peer

Good motor. Lots of stop and start in his game. Trying to make things happen but generally looked overmatched.

92 Nathan Pilling

Big forward - can move with speed. Struggled to get out of his zone.

93 Mark Duarte

Good size. Not much to show for his efforts.

DEFENCEMEN

59 Etienne Morin

No panic in his game. Handles and moves the puck well on the powerplay.

44 Mikael Diotte

Made some simple basic plays - puck retrievals, short connecting passes for breakouts. No real standout skill. Hard worker.

37 Yan Kuznetsov (A)

Logged a lot of minutes. Not totally mistake free but definitely better than others. Quietly killed some plays in the d-zone. Good gap control and active stick when defending one-on-one. Blocked shots. Skates well. Was defending a lot and didn’t do much outside of his own blueline. Seemed to struggle with communicating with his partner in the d-zone.

96 Jarrod Gourley

Played his off side with Kuznetzov who covered for him at times. Seemed a bit uncomfortable there. Likely AHL depth that will spend some time in the ECHL.

36 Tyson Galloway

No attributes really stood out. Some defensive miscues with his partner Cote. Played a 2 on 1 pretty poorly. Can see why the Blues cut bait.

53 Charles Cote

Huge. Not great. Not much icetime. Some miscues with Galloway.

GOALTENDERS

50 Matt Radomsky

Calm and composed. Patient. Not big. Lots of shots against in the first. Let in 2 goals in the first - one deflection and one wrist shot from the circle with traffic. Kept the Flames in the game in the first. Seemed to tire out after that as the Canucks badly outshot the Flames. PP goal against in the second. Seeing eye shot against in the third with little traffic. Then another in the slot after a giveaway. Not much help as the game went on but gave up some big rebounds late.

He's still young for a defenceman, and playing alongside kids here who'll probably never even make it to the A full time (exception maybe Morin, but waaaaay too young to judge). He's never going to be a top pairing D-man in the show, but he's decent for the A.

Yeah I still have some patience for him but he didn't look any different tonight than he has playing with some very good partners in the A. I'm just concerned about the lack of progression. He got points last year on a team where everyone got points, but the instincts just aren't quite sound IMO.

I don’t think that is an official rule. Perhaps a guideline? Danilla Klimovich as two full seasons for Abbotsford, and Yan Kuznetsov has played parts of 3 Seasons for the Wranglers/Heat…

And last year Emillio Pettersen had two full seasons for the Stockton Heat and was a part of it.
