I mean, these are kind of crap games too so -- I don't think gaming overall would lose too much if Sony and especially Microsoft just disappeared at this point.

Show me all these posts about me being pumped about every Xbox exclusive. I was even on record being apprehensive about Starfield. There's a guy in the video game thread that only posts negative stuff about Microsoft and Xbox games. We all know who that is but you want to take a few of us to task for defending a game we like? Get real.

its definitely copy-paste Oblivion-Skyrim-Fallout lineage.
The thing that bothered me the most is 15 years ago in Oblivion/Skyrim is that I hated that I had to load between opening doors to go into interiors inside the city. 15 years later its the same in Starfield. I modded that out, modders found out if you have a fast enough PC and storage, you can sometimes load instananeously when going in an out of doors and even your ship. The black loading screen is actually programmed in! There are some janky artifacts when you do this since you will immediately load into the new area and because the game hasn't been designed to cache ahead, you'll see NPCs, environment, and lighting pop in but it's better than waiting for an arbitrary black screen staring at the loading circle.
Bethesda could easily have had a seamless world if they had designed the game to cache again to take advantage of modern systems with greater memory. But I'm 100% they manually coded in a black screen delay between locations because they had to abide by Microsoft's mandate that all games have feature parity between the Xbox Series X and Series S which is cripped in terms of ram.
|
Couldn’t agree more on the loading screens. That’s probably the biggest thing that makes the game feel dated.
The persuasion system is just funny to me though with the dialogue. It’s just so unrealistic it’s kind of immersion breaking.

I still stand by it, I enjoyed Halo infinite far more than Stray and It Takes Two. But as we have discussed in the past those aren't my kind of games and they definitely are yours.
I love FPS, adult themed RPG's while you speak out about how much violent games aren't for you.
I am still waiting for you to offer any thoughts on the game instead of just throwing passive aggressive jabs at people who are actively enjoying the game in a thread about it.
I assume you either dislike it due to the violence or have chosen to play the game as a conscientious objector and do not enjoy for reasons similar to those that don't find it all that great? I have no idea what you think beause you haven't offered up anything of substance.
Either add to the conversation or maybe think about adding value to a different thread cause at the moment all you are offering is nothing much more than attempts to point out that we enjoy Xbox games and like to offer a quite unpopular opinion that Xbox games can be fun and great in ones opinion.

Uh, no, I disliked those games too. Were those the only three options for you in 2021? I looked back at my top 3 that year, was Metroid Dread, Psychonauts 2 (an MS first party game that actually does deserve lots of praise!) and Little Nightmares II.
And I haven't said anything about Starfield personally because I haven't played it, and don't intend to. From the gameplay I have watched and read about it looks woefully uninteresting and definitely not for me. Doesn't mean I can't participate in a thread though.

The other problem is persuade is the only option you have at the beginning and it's just too easy. The other options like intimidation and diplomacy and bribery need to be unlocked later but even those are way too easy to get your way through the universe. Obviously the game is designed to let you experience as much as possible but I want a more hardcore RPG where you can't just talk your way out of certain situations and if you killed them you won't get your objective either.
I also want jump fuel to cost money so I don't get tempted to fast travel for free and my robot should pick up all the loot for me (while also removing most of the useless junk in the game unless you could scrap/recycle things into fresh materials).

This is probably my top game of the last 20 years. It feels like I'm a kid and playing Oblivion/Fallout 3 all over again and I sunk huge portions of my youth in those games. I'm at 150 hours at this point and I'm platform agnostic.
I have an Xbox Series S, PS5, RTX3080 Windows gaming PC, and an M1 Macbook Pro. I love being able to play the game both on PC and console at the same time with cloud saves. I'll play on my gaming PC for better aim with the mouse and do modding, check into the game and do some random quests or inventory management from bed on the Xbox, then catch up with some cloud gaming on my Macbook during lunch at work.

My point was you were far more likely to enjoy those games than I was, I assumed once again which is on me.
I never got around to playing Psychonauts 2 or Little Nightmares 2, so for me personally I can't call them my GOTY. I have also never bin a fan of Metroid or metroidvania games going back to the 80's so that was out and I don't play my switch often at all to be honest, I really only have it for when my nephews and friends come over with kids or when Zelda comes out.
Yet out the games you mentioned, only one actually reviewed higher than Halo Infinite and it was Metroid Dread, by a whopping 1 point on Metacritic.
But I regress yet again, this thread is about Starfield. The bolded comment was all any one in this thread expected. Hell, on page 1 you said "naturally" you were going to check it out on the Series S even though you weren't nearly as excited as some. You chose not to check it out after doing your own research, cool. Some would say you are missing out on some awesome stuff, others would say you aren't.
What was not warranted were your passive aggressive comments about who enjoys the game and why.

Classic Nintendo guys trying to ruin everyone else's fun by telling them they shouldn't enjoy something. I bet if it was more cartoony and a Switch exclusive he'd love it
See, I can de-rail threads with silly generalizations too!

Mods shouldn't be needed in 2023 to enter a room . Bethesda will never change. Rinse and repeat every game they make. Mods are in every game they make not because " Hey, this is cool way to play the game !" It is always out of necessity.
For the hype and time they had to do this game it should feel 2023 not Fallout 3 or 4 or Andromeda.... just sell your #### to Rockstar already and let them make a decent game from day one .
It's not nitpicking, it's holding game developers accountable. We uave been programmed to just accepting day one #### releases. This game honestly dosen't improve on the experience as playing a xbox 360 game. Having a bettering visual experience thanks to moniter and gpuss improving does not make it okay to cut and paste games from the past .
It's Andromeda but enhanced ...

Playing both sides of the coin on my opinions here.
I have played it and my thoughts are based on my experiences but The way you were talking I thought you had. Maybe in a starfeild thread you should play it first?
I hate the convo persuains bull#### and the loading screens ,the #### npcs etc etc.....
Give me a game that feels modern.
I had the same issue with many Bethesda games. They all follow 1 recipe. I want a new game from them that makes me go " Wow! What a new experience!" Not o ok this is fall out, outer worlds ,half life and mass effect with a new skin.
Same reason I hated vahalla and oddessy in the ac world . It was orgins reskined.
To be fair I also liked the miles story in ac or the story out side the animus when most didn't. I thought breaking the world into the real world really kept the story on point that the player were reliving dna memories. Hate they took the modern day essentially out.

It's definitely a Bethesda game through and through. If that's your kind of thing then great, personally I'm having a lot of fun.
I don't think 7/10 is unfair, but also review scores are ####ed and most games above it don't deserve to be

I like the core concept. I'm just disappointed it's not a modern playing title. I'm starting tolike it more and more but just so dated . Like movies rebooting everything they can
To keep o the derail thread topic I loved spider man 1 but was also disappointed in miles morales that the game mechanics offered nothing really new like how ea kept nhl the same essentially for 10 years.

I'm definitely glad they did something like this instead of just doing another Fallout. I do wish they cleaned up some of the jank rather than just polishing it, but I didn't expect that really. The loading screens, even if they are just a split second, are especially annoying and stupid.
But I'm still having a lot of fun, while still hoping they do better for the next Elder Scrolls
