Hanifin to Buffalo for 13OA plus is the trade that makes sense to me.

Hanifin is a top 3 defender on basically every team in the league, logs 20+ minutes a night, consistently healthy, on a great contract for another year, and still only 26 with potential to grow in an even better player. Duclair can NOT be the center piece for a player like Hanifin if the Flames and Panthers make a deal... I think Buffalo is a better trading partner - lots to like there and the 13th overall this year.

Sheesh. The "part of" would need to be the biggest part of a deal involving Duclair.
I think Buffalo is a much better trading partner, hopefully something can be worked out there.

Oh my word! Overreact much? You must think Conroy and his team are card carrying lunatics. Yes, believe LeBrun, who has almost zero credibility. Let's see what the deal is, and with who, before we all run around like chickens with our heads cut off. Frankly, I'd sooner give our GM bit of credit.

Florida does NOT have a 3rd in this draft. They have their 2nd, 4th, 5th, 6th and Arizona's 7th.
I would still do Hanifin for Luostarinen + Duclair + 2nd or for Lundell + Duclair + 4th. I think we make out good on either.

He didn't say he's the centerpiece. He said he's the "player" which could be largely for cap reasons.

I really don't think Duclair is even close to the same value as Hanifin.

I wouldn't take that. That 2026 (late) first rounder is at least five years away from making it to the nhl, if not more. I think the value of of late first rounder that many years away is something like a third rounder now (not sure exactly but I remember seeing the time value of picks speculated somewhere).

a 2026 1st round pick is the ultimate wild card. You can't project Florida's success at that stage, so it'd be a spicy asset to have. So Duclair + 2026 1st? That'd be a fun return for me.
...not ideal by any stretch of the imagination, but a spicy one nonetheless.

I had him in my draft pool as a player/prospect that would be a Flame before the end of the draft. Changed it to Jarvis though, so it will probably be Samoskevich.

There's so many iterations with Buffalo that I think could work that I really hope Conroy's exploring it seriously.
- 13 OA
- Krebs or Quinn
- Bigger package with lesser picks/prospects as there's a slough of them
Hell I'd do this:
- CGY to BUF: Hanifin
- BUF to CGY: pick 2 of #13, Krebs, Quinn and add J.Skinner (no retain)
Obviously a rebuild style trade but I'd take an overpaid but still serviceable Skinner for Hanifin if it came with a couple reasonably considered locks for the top 6 in years to come. Gives Buff a lot of cap space to re-sign Hanifin, Power, etc, plus make other UFA acquisitions to go for it.

I didn't realize Duclair was so young, feels like he's been around forever.

CZ you have draft day hysteria. That’s a terrible trade. I don’t see FLA being a lottery team for a very long time. Way past when we’d make this pick.

It's three years from now, I don't think they'll fall off the map.
But either way the point is it's so far down the road that the value isn't there for me. The pick obviously has more upside than the current third rounder but also is much more riskier (which is why the value depreciates).

He's just bounced around a lot. Makes a player seem like they've been around a while when it feels like you've seen them on every roster.
