Right - when he was with Boston. That's what I meant.

Ya, pretty clear he didn't have particularly strong feelings to answer the question and was just rambling a bit

Don't know if it's been talked about/recognized here, but something that was pointed out to me:
The Lucic family was HUGE in terms of hosting/coordinating/facilitating things like team get-togethers, dinners, events, etc.
Lucic and his wife were big catalysts for getting guys connected off the ice and helping the wives and families feel acclimated here in the city.
It'll be interesting to see what family/families step in to fill the gap; culturally Lucic was really good for the team beyond his on-ice play.

Apparently Huberdeau has started doing that type of stuff:
https://flamesnation.ca/news/friedma...h-the-panthers
Quote:
Per a report from Elliotte Friedman in the 32 Thoughts podcast, Huberdeau has started to become more comfortable in his new surroundings in Calgary, and he’s becoming more of an “arranger” like he was with the Florida Panthers.
|
Quote:
The term “arranger” in this context is talking about Huberdeau checking in on teammates, organizing parties and get-togethers for everyone on the team, being involved with the young players and taking a true leadership role off the ice, according to Friedman.
Huberdeau taking charge of these responsibilities is a huge step forward for his position in the Flames locker room. Pelletier and Coronato both spoke about the kind of impact Huberdeau had on them as they tried to adjust to life in the NHL, even if it was for a short time

I thought the players couldn't look at Hubderdeau and he was the cause of the all the Flames problems and chased Sutter out of town.

It's gonna be hilarious to see the reactions on this board when Huberdeau gets back to 90-95 points next year. All these people who are writing him off-- last year was the first year that they followed him--that much is pretty evident.

What's going to be hilarious, we're all going to be happy!
Just because we're calling him out for having the production of Brock Boeser doesn't mean we want him to fail, we want him to be better.
We just don't have the optimism that he will be, I would love to be wrong on his contract looking absolutely horrific in 4-5 years.
Hilarious will be your reaction if he puts up another 55 next year.

Looch is great. I said it before, if he'd have signed here for $1.5 I'd take that deal every day!

I think Loocher will end up as a coach in the NHL. He's got the hockey smarts and energy.

Great team guy, carved a great career for himself. Doesn't belong in NHL anymore, hasn't for a number of years.

I'm the opposite. I wouldn't want him for league minimum. Rather have a rookie in that 4th line spot, for half the price. It was time to move on.

As much as a feel-good story it might be, is Boston that desperate for bottom six bodies? He's a liability most of the time.

Not me. It's time to turn the page. He was by far the Flames worst player last season. I'm a little shocked people would want to revisit that even if he's a good guy.

I don't think anyone is writing him off as a lost cause. I think everyone would be gloriously happy if he gets back to 90-95 points.
I do think many are unsure that he can reach those heights again after a 55 point season. But some here think it's more of a slam dunk that he will do so.
I expect the odds lie somewhere in-between as usual.

Celebrated Square Root Day

^^^
But there's different bouncebacks. There's a player that gets 60-70 points, then explodes for 100, then goes back to 65. Sure, the safe bet is that player isn't returning to 90-100, because of his scoring history.
That's not Huberdeau. He was scoring at a 90+ point pace for four straight seasons, including one at 115 points. Everything that could have gone wrong, went wrong, including a coach neutering everything that makes his game what it is.

The team has opened up about how rigid the system was last year and how detrimental that was for a player like Huberdeau, and explained that it will be opened up for creativity this season. He's also got better options this year for players that he tends to set up for goals.
You're making it sound like he needs to "claw his way up" from 55 points, as if 55 is the new base and he'll have to find ways to squeeze out a few more for a 65-70 points season. It's not likely going to be that. It will be more like "forget last season, it wasn't the real Huberdeau" and those stats won't have any bearing on this season and he'll most likely end up closer to his usual seasons, imo.

He is also a player who when he hit his prime he was a flirting around a 100 point pace, due to injuries and two covid shut down seasons he never actually hit until the next full season when he set a record for assists.
He was traded right after and his season sewered.
This is not some bum here scoring 40-55 points for 10 years and all of sudden hit 100 points living off a record setting PP and season by the MVP.
