Iginla left 10 years ago, not 40. Everyone knows Jarome Iginla.

That's why he's starting in an advisory role with (what I assume is) very little responsibility, and not the coach or AGM.
Iggy goes along for the ride, gets his feet wet, and Conny will show him the ropes and maybe bounce some ideas off him.

It's newsworthy because it's Iggy, but if it were a former player with less cache, this would barely be discussed.

I don't understand your confusion since this is pretty common in the NHL: Oettinger went from the historically nest playoff performance by a goalie to a pumpkin. Bobrivsky went from a $10 m doorstop to a Conn Smythe candidate. Carter Hart and Connor Hellybuyck consistently fk6ctate between "great" and "terrible" from one season to the next.

That's just goalies for you in today's game.

All hell would break loose if it was Jason Morgan.

.919 for Oettinger

A bad couple weeks in the playoffs is different than a bad 8 months

50% of users on Calgarypuck? Do you think this place has gotten younger? CP has had like 10 new users in that time, and half of them are me or Macman.

The margin for error (and luck) is just so small - goalies’ results can just swing so much. The difference between a 916 goalie and an 883 one ver a few 30 shot games is one goal per game - that can happen any number of ways. Obviously consistency is a big deal there - but so is chance, defence, opposition, etc.

Iggy is such a Calgary icon and having him back with the organization just feels right. He will be a great ambassador for the city and you can't feel anything other than happy for the guy. I hope he enjoys his new role and this is a stepping stone for greater work within the organization. It was such an honor watching him play and being part of his milestones over the course of 16 seasons and to be able to have him back in some capacity is a great addition to the front staff.

You can tell that Conroy and his staff want to win and this further solidifies that presence. You know Iggy will give his all to this role and will be instrumental in promoting the Flames and Calgary. Tremendous addition and hopefully we'll be able to see him around the Dome.

Hard to say what the on ice product will be but the Flames have done great work off the ice in building a staff containing character individuals. Nicely done by management and ownership thus far.

For all I know Iggy doesn’t know his arse from a hole in the ground when it comes to a management position with an NHL team, but I also know I’ve longed for his return since the trade in 2013, so whatever. He’s one of the few names in this game that’ll provide something special to your organization merely by virtue of being affiliated with it.

In some ways this probably seems like a trivial move that doesn’t move many needles, but I think getting this lovable guy back on Flames payroll is rather huge. I do get the skepticism and comparison to what went on up north, but there was quite simply always going to be a spot reserved here for #12 one way or another. Iggy’s iconic, a supreme fan-favourite, and Lowe wouldn’t even be qualified to do his dry cleaning.

Hahaha, what? This is a 35+ message board for the most part (TheScorpion notwithstanding). Almost everyone here was a fan during Iginla's career here, but even anyone young enough to have not watched him play would certainly know and understand his career and mark on this team and the NHL.

He's one of the greats, this post is insane.

Yeah, I've seen some crazy posts, but that was just bonkers, lol. How was watching the Stanley Cup winning game in Vegas? I'm forever jealous.

Honestly it was amazing...game wasn't close but the building was loud the entire game and it was a ton of fun. Pretty cool seeing the cup presentation (some people were leaving before it was over!)

Parties in the streets were crazy, saw a couple of the players at one club but people bouncing around with their phones in the air isn't really my scene.

I must admit though it had me dreaming of a Flames cup and what that would be like...with Iggy and Conroy out there! man that would be so great, redemption!

Tiktok was abuzz with people in shock of some of the crowd shots immediately after the buzzer. Like entire sections of fans just casually focusing on getting their phones set up and filming like they were witnessing a decent sunset, lol. And others looking like they were already over winning a Cup and wondering where they'd go next to enjoy the evening.
