It is more difficult to advance in life if you take a step in the wrong direction. I think promoting Conroy is a step in the right direction for this franchise.

It is interesting to note that Iginla and Huska were teammates in Kamloops, winning two Memorial Cups together (of Huska's 3 total).

Certainly doesn’t hurt.

I curious about Lanny’s response because he’s been pretty critical about the work of the previous GM and it stands to reason that, although it’s unlikely Conroy is a Treliving clone, he did cut his teeth under Treliving’s wing. There’s going to be differences, but there’s also going to be commonalities I would guess.

Interesting that one is an idiot and the other a beacon of light.

Hearing his Barn Burner interview is funny the way he talks about avoiding Sutter at all costs prior to and after games.

I just go sit in my office and wait for traffic to die down lol.

Seems like the right move especially given the other candidates they interviewed looked more like tire kicking and favors to old friends. I think he will do some things differently than Treliving and I hope he's up to the task of making some hard decisions over the next few months as some popular names may need to be moved if they aren't receptive to extensions.

This is a positive move. A players GM, super likeable, and keen. Let's see what he can do for us!

If it was deemed after speaking with the potential candidates that he was the best man for the job, I am good with it. Especially since he has put in his time and worked his way up to this level. He has earned it.

Love the optimism.

I wonder if Conny is someone who you've seen frequently at the orange Julius?

He is such a likable guy. He played for the team and paid his dues preparing for this role for the past dozen years. Conroy has worked for Feaster, Burke, and Treliving so he has seen several perspectives and has been here for a tear down, rebuild, competitive window which he will be tasked with keeping open.

The Nonis AGM theory makes some sense but with Maloney in the mix they still have that veteran GM in the org. Conroy is a great voice and face for the team and will be key on selling players on the city and his vision for the team. I hope Conroy brings Iggy into the organization and they win a cup here like they always should have in 2004

I agree. Conroy could solve this quick with a couple sit down meetings before the draft. First contact Backlund and see what was really driving his comment about leaving (was it Sutter or something else), I say call him first because of loyalty and finding out what I just mentioned. Second is sit down with Lindholm and if he is wait and see about how things are going in the season, then trade him now for a young guy and picks.

Don't wait and get screwed by a guy that will play his own way and protect himself.

Next talk to Hanafin and if he is the same as Lindholm then he needs to be moved also and will probably get you the better package based on position and age. Tell all the old free agent guys you aren't resigning them, then tell the new coaches that the younger guys like Pelletier, Coronato, Duer etc., will be playing in their place. This would probably be enough change before the season and others can/should be moved out later.

Last edited by Bubba17; 05-21-2023 at 01:19 PM. Reason: I think guys like Pelletier and Coronato could join up with Kadri and be successful.

I’m nervous about this, mostly because of the old boys notion, but Conroy is my all time favourite Flames player.

He’s such a good person, he has an eye for talent (he was the guy who found Fox wasn’t he?), he’s always been a hard worker, and he just embodies what the Flames should be.

Get on it Craig, I’m really happy for you!

I really hope this goes well, not just because of the obvious reason that I'm a Flames fan, but also because I really don't want to see the angry mob turn on a 20 year fan favorite.
