Tulsky apparently was given a day to put together a presentation for the Hawks.
I am not buying the smoke around Hunter. He is pretty married to the London Knights.

Kelly McCrimmon was pretty married to the Wheat Kings at one time too.

Hunter already left the Knights for 4 seasons to work for the Leafs, and by all accounts, he only left because the Leafs chose Dubas over him as GM.

There is a big difference between Toronto and Calgary. Hunter is a huge family guy. I am not sure he would want to leave SW Ontario. You never know though.

Conroy doesn't seem shrewd or cut throught enough to be a good GM. I guess if they plan to continue floating around in no man's land sure why not let him try, but if they ever plan on actually doing the right thing and rebuilding they need to clean house and bring a whole new management team and culture in.

Well he said they “hope” to have a GM in place by those meetings but it may not happen. So he didn’t rule it out, but also not saying they are real close either. He also said “he” and “right guy” numerous times. So there goes that idea.

Pascallruns the AHL team. To be honest, I am not sure what being an AHL team GM entails. I would think a lot of the personnel decisions come from the NHL club, but there must be a lot more to it. I am sure Pascal is also involved in scouting and player evaluations, but as far as running the day-to-day operations of the Wranglers goes, I have no idea what that means specifically.
In the past I've never been impressed by Pascal's pro scouting moves at the AHL level, but I will say that Bill Zito built his resume as an AHL gm who formed a championship squad (with some help from Zach Werenski) and he's probably the best GM in the league right now balancing simple concepts like buy-low, sell-high, analytics, and prioritizing a certain age range.

Seems like all the big Flames hockey ops news has been on Mondays recently. May 22 is my random guess for when a new GM is named

I hope Tulsky has been interviewed. Are there any examples of someone getting hired while their teams are still in the playoffs?

You hate to rush the hiring process but the Flames will likely be one of the busiest teams at the draft likely having to move a few of the players playing out the last year of their contracts. Lots of work to do and while I'm sure that work has already started it's going to be hard to convince guys like Lindholm to re-sign without an official GM or head coach for that matter.

Didn't we do that when Treliving came in? Or at least pretty close to it anyway....this team hasn't gone the player route and I am all for giving Conroy a chance, especially given the fact that he's had his hands all over this front office and has the fresh perspective of being a good NHL player.

I'm still in camp Tulsky for the new GM - this team needs a reset in its approach. The Canes are set up nicely for the present and with savvy drafting, signings, and trades have set themselves up to be very good for very long.

If the Flames hire Stan Bowman as GM, I'd strongly have to look at my allegiance to this franchise and would seriously consider disowning them...Please, just don't.

What makes you think he's not shrewd or cut-throat enough?

I posted this weeks ago, but for a few years there at WinSport, during various camps and scrimmages, Treliving and the AGM's, along with Button and various scouts, and sometimes coaches, used to sit amongst the public (they moved to their own cordoned off section after a few years). My brother and myself would purposely sit in front of them to listen to their conversations, and if one didn't know better, you would think it was Conroy that was in charge. He RAN the whole conversation, and knew every detail about every player/prospect, as well as contract statuses, coaching and training staff, etc. Button and Tre were relatively quiet, and it was Conroy answering all the questions. Truly remarkable. He talked about prospects from all through the organization as though he had scouted them personally many times.

32 thoughts was talking about Bowman. It was mentioned before in here, but I'm still not sure what the availability of Bowman is.

I don't see HNIC, but on Saturday, apparently EF said something about Bowman and his availability but was then told something different. Like he first said you can talk to Bowman but Bettman has to ok. But then now you might not be able to talk to Bowman until you talk to Bettman first.

Do I have this right?

It's kind of important in that, the timeline to add a GM before scouting meetings likely means Bowman is eliminated from contention. Fist pump.

That won't matter. Those guys are basically sitting on their thumbs right now, they will still interview if the Flames are interested.

I think Bowman was a leak from his agent to EF to get interest in him.

Bettman said no one can engage in contact until the team and him request for it.

I'm a bit wary though, even with people that have encyclopedic knowledge like this. I remember when Bill Peters was brought on, he was on the Fan doing an interview and spoke for 10+ minutes about all the players on the team and their strengths and weaknesses and on and on. I was very impressed. But ultimately, it went nowhere with him.

I DON’T want Conroy. Start with a fresh perspective man. This management group is played out…
