The western conference is lucky the league's crummy system denied a darkhorse team that would've been a dream killer in the playoffs.

I think they would've upset one if not more teams.

They rose to the occasion against better opponents, had proper tough guys and were essentially denied by stupid 3 on 3 and skills comps which don't exist in the 16 team tourney.

It's a damn shame. A team like the Jets on the other hand will be your standard first round fodder

Playoffs are just better with a Sutter team in them. Too much pansy all-skill hockey otherwise.

It will be terrible hockey, and now hardly different from regular season powerplay fests that prioritize entertainment over blood, sweat & tears.

The average age of the top 10 G's by save % and who played at least 30 games this season is 26.4.

Just sayin.

That being said, he will get a very long look in camp next season and can likely win a spot if he is still performing at this years level.

It wasn't Zadorov hate. Just an idea to sell high on a player that is exceeding his expectations. The idea is predicated on Scorps notion that the flames aren't Stanley Cup contenders, so why not build some draft capital.

I disagree on both counts as I think it's a good team that's going to go stay in win-now mode.

I did say I do think they could become Stanley Cup contenders, but I also think the process of rebuilding Huberdeau and Kadri's games won't happen overnight — and that the stated goal of next season should be more on the side of player development, with winning as a possible byproduct of that. Very much a reset year, where you're also OK with maybe drafting high at the end of it to get a potential foundational piece.

Somebody should have thought about that before they #### the bed for 82 games, innit?

I think the drop off in Kadri's game is related to his lack of training in off-season (due to long playoff run). He should be back to full form next year. And I think his late-seasom frustration with Sutter was more about the player's struggles with fatigue than real underlying issues with Sutter. Listening to press conferences, Sutter rarely took shots at Kadri and often came to his defense.

But I wouldn't be shocked if Huby is gone this off-season, especially if Sutter stays. He's not a prototypical Sutter player and if there's a rift between Tre and Sutter on roster construction, I couldn't imagine who else it might be about.

The Flames probably have 111 points again if Wolf starts every game in place of Markstrom.

So Wolf is way closer to the average age than Markstrom is?

I don't even think his game dropped off, it's just that his 21-22 season was a complete mirage and he's now come back to Earth. He's been a 50-60 point player all his career, it's just who he is. Whoever overpaid for that one outlier of a season was always going to regret it, it just happened to be us, unfortunately.

If Florida loses their final game against Carolina, then Flames would have the 8th and final playoff spot if they were in the Eastern Conference. Damn you, geography!

This whole season was like a Mythbusters episode to debunk the idea that if you put more pucks on the net than the other team, you'll win more than you lose.

Weird season for sure. Looking forward to the youth movement. You look at teams like LA and Seattle on paper and wonder how they finished ahead.

Kinda funny, but with the hat trick Zadorov finishes the year tied for 10th in the league in goals by a defenseman.

This is where Hakan Loob has to play a big role. Explain to Jacob how important it is to raise your family in Sweden. If Markstrom pulled a Loob it would solve a big problem and free up a bunch of cap space.

Maybe I’m crazy but I actually think Zadorov is one of a few veteran Flames who still has upward progress possible in his career arc. I think he has more points in him, and that he is capable of becoming a very solid defensive presence.

Haha the classic Darryl Sutter if we where in the east we would make the playoffs.

He will never own up to the poor job he does.

The only negative take from that game I can think of is playing the kids too late. The chemistry between Coronato and Pelletier was pretty solid, they played with speed and energy we sure could have used the last 5-6 games.

Wasnt a fan of Kadri on that line though, all he did was try to do it himself and had he had any inclination of passing we would be celebrating Matt's first NHL goal in this thread as well. Those 2 kids need a playmaking center and that line is easily top 6 material, if not a solid 3rd line.

Glad we got the win, now hoping the hockey gods do us 1 favor this year and let the other teams win too so we can pick 13th, win the lottery and move up!

Great game by the kids and Wolf.

Lastly, I know lots are hard on Zadorov on here and yea sometimes he takes dumb penalties. But at least that guy plays like he gives a #### every night, he doesn't take a night off.

He's also a great human being, I remember an interview where he was asked about family and kids and he said that him and his wife stopped at having 1 kid because they want to adopt. Giving unfortunate kids a proper home and opportunity, and that alone shows you he cares. I hope we keep him for a while.

I think the east was stronger than the west this year. So no guarantee they’d have the same amount of points.
