Yeah this was my fear when we went retool instead of rebuild. The only reason we are even sniffing a playoff spot is because of the Jets poor finish to the season. Quite frankly, this Flames team doesn't really deserve to make the playoffs, and tonight just reinforces that point even more.

As sad as it is, the Oilers are a much better team than the Flames by almost every metric this season. Standings don’t lie.

Where was the in zone coverage again? Flames casually skating and picking up skaters. It’s been a problem all year. The first goal vatrano too much time. Second goal Comtois no one even contests him as he’s all alone for a rebound. Mind you, the first the shot could have been controlled better but easy to day tough to do.
I think it’s a terrible synergy of suck with the in-zone team defence and uninspiring goalie play. I thought that breakaway save, another egregious turnover, would have woke them up.
Lindholm looks pedestrian, kadri looks selfish and dumb, mangiapane, looks to be out of sync, backlund can’t make passes again, toffoli with a bad turn over then transition coverage of the trailer and Coleman with a selfish penalty in a one goal game in must win game showing zero self control and discipline.
I don’t know how these guys aren’t amped up to play against a bottom feeder. These guys are head cases.

Does anyone really want markstrom on the team next year? After he crapped the bed completely against the oilers in the playoffs, and then his play this season, I can’t even cheer for the guy.

These guys play like they want the goalie to be a miracle worker. Defence is a six man job. Obviously it’s all collapsing and tunnelling towards the goalie but I’m seeing the same old dispassionate flames vs an inferior opponent playing for a draft pick. It’s an ugly character group all year. The kings game markstrom had to be super human.
Just really mentally soft.

He’s being played like a #1 because Vladar didn’t grab the job at all, and Markstrom rebounded somewhat.
This is a bad game for sure. But he’s the only shot they have.
