Watching again, credit to Weeger for his hustle to get to his man along the boards and the big hit. Whoever that was had to rush a weak shot and it then bounced off Weeger and right to Huberdeau.
Those are the subtle plays and also bounces the Flames haven't been getting and/or have gone the wrong way.Weeger is a second later and that puck could get through towards the Flames net where there were a handful of Stars outnumbering the Flames down low.

That was freaking awesome. I only got to see the third period, which was up and down, but man that was exciting when Toffoli got the breakaway at the end. Great shot and a nice feed from Huberdeau. You could see the difference versus the pass from Pelletier earlier that didn't quite hit Toffoli in stride and Heiskenen caught him.
I liked what I saw from Pelletier Lindholm Toffoli as well. And I was hoping to see Dube play some center, so that was good to see. He's such a great skater.
Hated the decision by Ritchie to take that penalty, but he had his good moments too including a goal so gotta be happy with the overall contribution.
As down as I have been on the team, I'm honestly just really happy for everyone in the organization that got a bit of relief from the regulation win.

Definitely worth talking about icetime. While fighting for their playoff lives, 'top guys' Huberdeau/Kadri/Toffoli are getting 14 minutes while fourth liners also get 14 minutes.

Might also notice the subtle Interference Markstom runs on the Star play rushing to retrieve the puck behind the net . He dosen't do that the puck dosen't wrap around.
Well, looks like the team decided to play hard today which is unfortunate because they really needed the win against the Wild.
Nonetheless, great debut by Nick Ritchie though. Kind of everything I saw in him with Arizona, big body, net front presence, good hands in tight spaces, some goal scoring touch around the net. Thought his power forward style once again complimented Huberdeau’s game. Secretly I had hoped Darryl would line him up with Huberdeau, but didn’t think it was going to happen with all the talk about Pelletier and Huberdeau’s chemistry, although I never really saw it.
Thought Andersson and Weegar made big impacts in the game as well. Also think Pelletier could do some good for Lindholm, he’s a skilled checking type player and I think Elias is at his best when he’s playing with similar like-minded types.

When the Stars were pressing and the puck came to Huberdeau, I had a feeling there was someone up ice he was going to hit with a pass. Crazy. I did think Toffoli would get stopped though.
And in honor of Geno Smith who also had a big day yesterday:
They wrote the Flames off, the Flames didn't write back though.
Went back and looked. Calgary did manage to score 3 goals in the third in both of games 4 and 5 (Oettinger was still .935 and .943 or so in those games but Markstrom was .952 and .971).

You just knew Ritchie would do well with Huberdeau.
The pass from Huberdeau was perfect and perfect shot from Toffoli. It shows why Huberdeau is one of the best passers in the league. A lot of his passes don't get handled well. This one was in a soft landing spot that only Toffoli could get but the pain part was it wasn't a pass that hit Tofs stick. Knowing our luck it would have bounced off his stick.

He (Oettinger) looked so normal last night, I'd have to go back and look to but all I have from that series are memories of how tough he was to beat lol

Huberdeau makes 3 or 4 great passes every game. So many are bobbled or the recipient decides a few stickhandles are in order before doing something with the puck.
Or just weird luck - last night he made 2 great passes to Zadorov who had good shots that were stopped. Then Zadorov gets another shot on the same shift that goes in.
Huberdeau also made that great backhand pass to Ritchie in front of the net but a great save was made.
