To be very blunt I don't think Murray Edwards watches any games. He just reviews financial statements and make sure sales are good. And the Saddledome still sells out every night so probably business as usual.

Except there seems to be some serious dissatisfaction from the fanbase recently. The Sutter hire shut the fans up for a season. So maybe this time fire Treliving and replace him with another puppet that'll have the same mandate for short-term success. Sign aging UFAs, trade picks for depth, squeak into the playoffs under the notion that anything can happen once you're in, make some money off of playoff tickets.

I've seen this movie before.

But we don't care about the future, rememeber? We are NOT rebuilding. We are dead set on get in and win now. Atleast that's how this team is being managed. So what sense does it make to miss the playoffs on bad goaltending, if you can improve instantly from within?

At 5v5 the Flames are 5th in Goals For per 60 when the game is tied (2nd in nominal goals)

But drop to 18th GF/60 when trailing (23rd in nominal goals)

So it actually might help. This team is not built to be trailing, Sutter's shot quality mantra doesn't work well with collapsing teams. So better goaltending probably actually would help the lack of scoring.

Last year this team played with the lead, this year they play more trailing. Their play when tied is still elite, it's goaltending leading to that switch.

If Treliving did try and go for Talbot it's most likely Vladar who would go. And he's probably more appealing for Ottawa due to his age and salary. And like it's been mentioned it opens the door for Wolf to come in next season.

He is not like Tom Dundon or some other involved owners. I have never seen or even heard a sighting of him at the Saddledome ever. He's busy doing billionaire things in his Swiss fortress

I'd be interested in seeing the playoff team that wants this iteration of '$6M Markstrom.'

Maybe one at 25 percent retained as long as Talbot signs a 2 year extension at 2.5 a year because it's good for a sale?

What makes you think that?

Sure, you make it sound like almost pie-eyed optimism.

A road doesnt need to go up nor down, there is in fact a third, even worse option...it continues onwards in its current, unenviable direction, a fruitless path of wild indifference, leading nowhere. Perpetual mediocrity.

I think the season is lost unless there is immediate action around the goaltending.

Decision is yours Treliving, but you've got an hourglass now on the deadline to make a meaningful change

And by that I don't necessarily mean buy

Give the kid a run, and see what you are with a competent goalie

Or let this year burn for the sake of development. But if you do that, make sure you're accumulating assets at the deadline
