It's goaltending AND the hesitancy to shoot the damn puck. Too may passes, not enough shooting and going to the net.

The shooting thing - I just don’t agree.

This team blasts the opposition with shots on goal. They aren’t passing enough, they aren’t holding onto the puck enough. They’re too eager to throw the puck away.

Perhaps it was trying to pump his tires but I wasn’t getting that really. I think it’s more they’re trying to deflect blame from him sucking and questioning the team and Sutter in still having him as the number 1. If he didn’t #### the bed then they can justify throwing him out next game. I think it’s just propaganda for the uneducated fans.

Not enough shooting is the least of our worries. We constantly outshoot the opponent. High quality chances on the other hand is a definite issue.

The power play is worse than the Rich Preston days. Add it to the list of things that are awful.

Markstrom has a career 2.71 GAA and .910 SV%

Star goalie?

I know this will go against the flow, but I enjoyed the comeback to tie the game. As for the 4th goal - I personally think that when a stick/skate/player prevents the movement of the goalie pad inside the blue paint the goal shouldn't count, but that's me.

I look forward to the next win, as this game was a needed distraction.

Markstrom
PP
Huberdeau

Those are the problems with this team this year, and in that order.

And TBH I'm not sure the PP and Huberdeau even deserve to be on the same list as Markstrom.

Huberdeau hasn't produced enough but at 5v5 he's still 54.8% xGF and 51.9% GF%...so not like he's been a liability. Just not worth the hype or the big deal starting next year.

Markstrom is actively costing them games at this point. They generally win in spite of him if they win with him in net.

And almost did it today...then he let the first shot of the third in.

The shot clock is one thing, the quickness off the stick completely another.

He became a starter in 17-18 and in those 5 years prior to this one he was (min 150 GP):

Wins: 133 (6th)
Save Percentage: .914 (12th)
SO: 17 (T-6th)

So I wouldn't say a star, but he was a top 10 starter or so. And a .920 SV% over that time would rank first, so not like he was miles behind other top goalies.

This year he's probably one of the worst 4 starters in the league though. Among goalies that have played 30 games or more only Jack Campbell has a worse save percentage than Markstrom's .889

I may be against the grain here but to me, it’s Kadri that’s killing that line. Huberdeau was bad to start the season but the last ten games at least, I think Kadri has been one of our worst players. I personally think he’s bringing Huby down.

When our two worst players tonight were Marky and Kadri, it’s tough to win.

I'd agree with this.

It just not a fit. Huberdeau needs guys to play quick passes with.

Kadri hangs on to the puck waaay too long.

Why do we think a goalie already in his early thirties was going to maintain that for that contract length? Even optimists would likely think the back half of that deal was not going to be pretty.

Should've taken note of the fact that Kadri didn't use his linemates well in COL, even if he had a good output last season

He needs to work with his wingers normally the way he did last game

He sinks into this kind of selfish game every so often, which hurts his line when he's not shooting/scoring after hanging on to the puck

I also think Kadri is the wrong guy to use for entries on the PP. He has speed, but lacks the playmaking ability (both reads and execution) to make the play at the line to gain control in the zone.

Generally speaking our powerplay needs to be revamped, with a couple of set plays that provide option value. The idea should be to move it around quickly to set these up, and depending on what look the defence is giving you make a read on which one to execute

Right now it seems like they’re thinking about every pass - which leads to slow perimeter movement and bad point shots that don’t have a hope.

Spencer Martin is the worst goalie in the league.
