Not Flames specific, but I would really like to see the league retire the national anthems before games. A waste of time for an antiquated tradition, one that is proving excruciatingly needless as we tour around listening to American Idol rejects squawk out their versions like a solo cover band.

I don't disagree with you, but the intersection of sport, and hockey specifically and nationalism would make this a tough sell

That’s probably my biggest frustration right now. Losing Gaudreau and Tkachuk basically eliminated any “wow” moments from the game. We’re doing ok, and we’re doing it as a team, but even the wins aren’t that exciting because we don’t really have any exciting players.
I’d love a player like Bedard, who wouldn’t? I want to watch a player who is on another level offensively again.

I'm just annoyed how two cities keep getting them.
Gretzky
Messier
McDavid
Draisaitl
Lemieux
Jagr
Crosby
Malkin
(clearly you could draw a line before #4 on each list if you choose).
Then what ... Ovenchkin, McKinnon, ... Colorado now with two I guess.

All we need to do is look North to understand that lamenting your team has never been bad enough to get good is a terrible premise.

Edmonton didn't even tank for McDavid. They just sucked at hockey for a decade and got lucky.

Atmosphere at college basketball games in the US is some of the best too IMO. So much better than what you see/hear in the stands in say junior hockey.

I used to kind of think this way but now I actually kind of like the anticipation that builds. Two anthems is too much though. Just play the home team's.

We're in 2023, why not a 2 minute Mashup of anthems!

Jeez, what happened to patriotism? The only thing I would suggest is playing the National anthem of the host country. Too bad some of you are forced to live in Canada.

Its becoming a thing. Media starting to talk about lack of opportunity in Calgary and the Fox/Harvard connection with Coronato.
Some will scoff, but its out there now.

My prediction is that Coronato never plays a single game in a Flames uniform

If they can make the cap stuff work, and they want an impact winger for the window, you have to think he's on the table.

The Sharks are one the few fanbases that I don't envy. The worst I have ever felt as a Flames fan were the playoff failures in '19 and last year when they were supposed to be one of the best teams in the league. Sharks fans dealt with that almost every year for over a decade

With the way Darryl Sutter treats any top 9 prospect we have you have to think he will just wait it out and go to free agency.
He will be get paid regardless, so it will probably be a matter of opportunity for him and he wont be getting that in Calgary as long as Darryl Sutter is behind the bench or even worse if he is promoted into a managerial role.

Playing the anthems prior to the game is dumb. Maybe in the Finals or something ok but every single game? No thanks.
Its not about patriotism this isn't a world cup these cities playing each other not countries.

First round picks generally don't (never?) stay in college for four years. He's be risking a lot with injury and dollars on the table over his career by not getting to subsequent contracts sooner.
So can't see it.
Doesn't mean he plays here, but he certainly won't go the UFA route.

Last year my 5-year old was showing interest in watching hockey with me for the first time. I bought her her first jersey and she would excitedly run and grab it to watch a game with me whenever she saw the Flames were playing. Now I haven't watched a full game since October and she's forgotten all about her jersey, it just sits in the closet collecting dust. Probably for the best
