IMO, late 1st round picks are the most over-rated asset among fans.
Kadri is a top 6 C who put up 90 points last year. A late 1st is a 50/50 shot of playing in the NHL

Preds have an announcement coming on twitter in 8 minutes, wonder if that's related. Though they have no cap space either

He was an elite finisher. Those days are likely gone.

Likely an outdoor game announcement or something along those lines.

Just my opinion.

Unfortunately, I think that this is bad news with respect to Monahan's Rehab. I hope that he can return to a pain free life some day. He will forever have my respect for the way he put his body on the line for the Flames.

Cap space has never been tighter and more valuable than this year. Pretty much every competitive team is not only up against the cap, but looking to find ways to shed it.
Treliving stepped up and paid the price. That only makes it WORSE for the other teams that need to do it now.

I truly thought they had a cup contender with those players

If we somehow managed:
To MTL: Monahan + significant assets
To CGY: Drouin (retained)
I’d be overjoyed.

Columbus just basically gave away a 27 year old, 57 pt player to clear $5.5 mil cap space. That’s how valuable cap space is in the market right now.

I'm more concerned with it for trade collateral, since this team is competing to win now, that's a valuable asset come deadline time.
But we shall see how this all shakes out.
