Isn't the age of consent in the States 18? So it wouldn't matter if she agreed to it cos it's still considered sexual assault/ rape down there?

At least this girl was smart enough to insist on Cash up front...not getting into Kane/Abortion territory...

I thought it was state by state.

You are correct. Some states have as low as 15 as age of consent. Guess it would depend which state this took place in?

I ave my doubts about the whole, 17 or 18 year old girl gets a meeting with a backer of a well known studio to pitch her idea. Its at the best unlikely, at the worst, maybe he saw the picture of her and creepily rubbed his hands together and said, set up a meeting, I'll BS her and all that.
It seems more likely that somehow he was introduced to her through the pimping couple and they made a deal.
In terms of public relations, its a disaster and a bad look for Edmonton, especially considering that Katz has done this before with actresses and the love stained casting couch approach.
Paying for sex with a girl half his age when he holds the strings for making movies is power plus influence. Its creepy and gross. Even the text's give a creepy vibe.
Its more likely that the girl was prostituted and exploited and Katz made a deal for young stuff.
Can he continue on as an owner of an NHL team? Yeah, sports fans have a blind spot about stuff like that unless its more then one girl. They'll defend the creepy bastard, and yell out that its a misunderstanding and he was nicely helping a girl out to follow her dreams.
Edmonton's paid media will make this go away. Staples and Stauffer and all the others will circle the wagon.
However on the tails of the Hockey Canada, and Blackhawks stuff, the NHL is going to have to investigate.

If I was a billionaire, even if I was as straight and narrow as Mother Theresa, I'd never text people directly. I'd have people do that for me so I could never be incriminated for any reason whatsoever.
I'd have people on staff to buffer me from everything and everyone. Even family.
Especially family.

I believe it's the same as Canada but it may be different for each state.

I'd hire a fella like Dan Quinn. Can act as a caddy on the course, a designated drive, and sexual misconduct bullet shield.

I assume the prostitution angle would take the age of consent out of the equation, but I don't know how that works.
Also, it's unclear which State(s) this allegedly happened in. If he paid her to cross state lines, I believe that throws another wrinkle into things. Although, it appears that so far, this isn't a criminal case, so it's more about him being a creep.

I think a Weinstein-type situation is more likely, where he offered her money/movie funding in exchange for… whatever he was after.
If the couple was pimping her, why wouldn’t she sue the couple for pimping her? And why would the couple she’s suing introduce Katz in their counter suit as a previous illegal relationship that happened before they’d met?

If it was either Nevada or Massachusetts then AOC is 16. However, that's thrown out the window when it deals with prostitution or a position of power. I think it could be argued that even if he never offered her the money in exchange for sex, his position in the movie studio (or even just his wealth) would be enough to constitute a position of power.
If it's proven he had sex with her I think he's in a lot of trouble. However that would require physical proof or the woman coming forward. Her legal team has already denied the claim.
