This. And yes, McDavid is Lebron pre-Heat. It was obvious then how good he was, he just got himself a team. And Marino was absolutely awesome, probably better than Elway who ultimately won 2 SBs with a devastating running game or Montana who played on a stacked 9ers team. These are team sports, winning a team accomplishment ultimately.

I personally think MacKinnon is better and more valuable than Makar right now but again that could change in the next 2-3 years.

Anyone performing gymnastics to find reasons to explain McDavid as lesser player is just fooling themselves right now, the bottom line is the Oilers are really bad. The best hope is that the Oilers stay crappy and he bolts once his contract expires.

nobody said he wasn't talented...somebody said he "eviscerated" Makar and the Avs. Meanwhile the Avs scored more goals than the Oilers when he was on the ice and Makar also personally outscored him in the series.

It was a laughable post as proven by statistics and they got called out on it, sometimes we have to dig deeper than the fanboy RSN/Edmonton media.

In the biggest series of his life McDavid was nowhere near the best player on the ice. If we are talking all time greats I think its fair to ask why he has never won anything at any level other than personal awards.

I'm not sure the answer is every team should just give up and concede they can't win the Stanley Cup. Should we have 30 teams rebuilding?

That’s kind of the point I was making in a round about way originally. I don’t think Makar is so great that it’s going to make the Avs unstoppable. The Avs are a great team. I actually think (like others have said here before) that the Flames match up well against them. Especially with Darryl at the helm. Makar def wouldn’t neutralize the Flames top line alone.

Question more would be could the Flames keep Avs speed/high danger chances under some check. I think they actually could. It would be close I think.

They couldn’t handle the generational talent in McDavid, but I also think they had a bad strategy. Needed to play defense-first with a checking line from the start and try to neutralize his transition zone speed. They did sort of figure it out but too late.

Avs are awesome. So is Tampa. Florida and Calgary and Carolina also are really good teams. Any year someone can emerge, like StL a couple years ago. Flames need to build on what they did this year!
