Yes, scratching a guy who has played in multiple elimination games in favour of a rookie who has played in exactly zero of them doesn't seem like something a 2 (3!) time cup winning coach would do.

Lewis went from a very effective forechecker in the Dallas series to a possessional black hole in this one. Was our worst forward last game and has been bottom three all series. It's a results business.

I fully expect their rotting carcasses on the ice held up by strings controlled by Kevin Lowe if they make the next round. Now they can play 60 minutes!

By then they will have moved on to new teams. I don't see either re-signing in Edmonton when their contracts expire. It's not like their roster is getting better next season as Kane will be gone and they have RFA's that will get raises.

Yep, unless some of their internal depth really makes massive improvements, this is as good as their team of going to be under the McDavid/Draisatl/Nurse core.

Agreed and if we are going with 6 D-men tonight, I'd dress Stone instead of Kylington.

Posting to get the Treliving topic away from the top on a playoff game day.

Embarrassing.

I think Kylington would have benefited from watching a game from the press box earlier in the series. Just to shake off the visible nerves and all that. But it is hard to fault Sutter for scratching Stone tonight. It was either him or Gudbranson to bring a forward back in.

The problem is none of that has come up since the 1st period of game 2, but the secondary scoring has stepped up with 2 or 3 goals in the series.

The problem has been keeping the puck out of the net. They've averaged 5 goals against per game in this series...that's a far cry from how they played all year. Brutal mistakes and defensive breakdowns that were easily exposed by McDavid led us to this point. This is very uncharacteristic of the Flames and is the single biggest reason why I believe this team will win the series. They've finally adapted to Edmonton's attack and will play their game the rest of the way.
Jesus Christ, you're dramatic.

Mang and Toffoli have 1 goal each this series and 2 in 11 games.
I'll give you Coleman got 2 in game 1, but also 2 in 11 games.
Dube, 0, Jarnkrok 0.

Focusing on this series alone, that's 4 goals from those 5 players.
Hyman has 5 goals himself.
Zack Hyman has as many goals in this series as our middle 6 forwards combined!!
But no, that's not an issue...

Keeping the puck out has also been an issue, I never said it wasn't and these 2 things aren't mutually exclusive.
Ritchie scoring 2 is fantastic, the 4th line was never the target of my comment.

Whatever happens, this season’s version of the flames was fun to watch during the regular season! It was nice to be able to look forward to watching every other night. That’s all I was asking for this season and the playoffs were gravy. A lot of good teams got knocked out first round and it’s just nice to see the team progress and have fun. Thanks Flames! Now let’s see your best again tonight.

Markstrom has to be better than smith.

Play the top 2 lines a ton. Hope to have a great start, allowing you to lean on lower lines as the game goes on but only if the flames are in control.

I really feel that the flames had smith right where they wanted him but failed to really test him after the 3-pointer goal. If the flames can get to smith early I can totally see a scenario where that goal could be viewed as a series changer.

Need a strong start, big game from the top lines, and markstrom to get back to his game. Those are ALL completely plausible for tonight's game.

Come on flames, win tonight!

We're gonna need the guys in row 2 behind the Oilers bench to step up huge and rain down their magic missile finger curses at Smitty every single TV timeout.
