Not much to say — oilers were better and took advantage of flames mistakes. 2 breakaways in a row to win it, one SH? Oy.
Time to lock it down discipline wise flames. Play 5v5 and it’s an efficient series win. Trade PPs, 4v4? Nope.

Going into the series I thought that Sutter was exactly the guy to draw up a plan to shut down McDavid. So far that has not been the case. He is having his way with us and we have no answer. Not saying it’s easy as other teams have the same problems isolating him but the lack of containment is scary. Edmonton hasn’t even got their PP firing on all cylinders and the results aren’t pretty.
Also, Markstrom needs to be better. He was coveted and paid a large amount of money to be in this situation and be “the guy.” With that kind of contract comes high expectations especially in the playoffs. Not saying that this is 100% on him as the defensive coverage and two breakaways in the third were definitely critical mistakes, but come on you’re being outplayed by Mike Smith.
Calgary never does things the easy way. Let’s see if they can respond in game 3 and make some big adjustments. Need to get a split.

I thought Calgary looked pretty bad tonight. No structure, and a "Ah, we'll win this." mentality. And all kinds of mistakes.
Add in adequate but not amazing goaltending, and the top line doing nothing much.... gonna lose a game here and there.

I'd consider Mackey in for Killington. He has just been so bad without Tanev.
Maybe go 11 forwards 7 d again. But can't really take Ritchie out.

We needed a save tonight and didn’t get one.

Flames definitely need to be careful from this point forward with refereeing the way it is... have to stay out of the box and 4 on 4...
While the refs were not good, the Flames also were not good...going to need to be a lot more disciplined going forward.
gotta play a boring, ugly road game... hope that someone hammers McDavid, with a clean hit of course, next game.

I’ll take a 60% Tanev and dress 7 d

Reflective on team play as well but definitely not a trend you want to see repeating for the rest of the series.

When your goalie has that stat line through two games, you’re very fortunate to come out of it with a split. If he gets it together than the Flames should win this series.

Me too, me too.
11-7 worked great for us last series. It's tougher to coach against as well.
Just give Stone boomstick duty.

Loss is a loss suck it up game 3 is a new game, win game 3 or 4 and its tied. Series should go to 7 games, Flames had their chances hopefully they play their game and win one in their barn.

Ollie has been horrendous. Has totally lost his mojo. Providing nothing in transition, missing the net on every shot, and a defensive disaster.

Underrated play tonight: Tkachuk’s stupid penalty after the 3-1 goal. Completely unnecessary and led to an Oilers goal 4v4.

The McDavid dick riding needs to end. We get it. He’s good. I don’t need to hear about him for 20 minutes between every period. And I don’t care what the odds are on the game. I really don’t.
And I REALLY don’t need more Ron MacLean. It’s time to take him out to pasture.

You guys watch the intermissions? Really?
Why would you do that to yourself. I go and do stuff for 15 minutes and come back.

Sutter is smart and knew it would stand? That would be my guess.
