Hoping for big games from Coleman, Toffoli and Jarncrok -- or the guys we specifically acquired because they step up in postseason games. Coleman to his credit has shown up for this series, Toffoli needs to capitalize on his chances and Jarncrok needs to actually be the "por man's Lindholm" that he claims to be.

Oilers buddy from work texted me today saying that we should have grabbed, Kane. He said, imagine your second line with Kane on it? I told him that we weren't that desperate. Big no to Kane regardless of his play.

Jarnkrok had never stepped up in any playoff
But yes they need to step up. I am banking on Coleman.

A welfare check is when someone needs to be looked in on, not a money thing.
Cheque vs. check.
I do apologize if this came across as a money thing. But I meant it as a "should we be checking in on people as there is a ton of stress after only two games".

My view is that jarnkrok is a fine, responsible 3rd line C.
Problem is that we already have a really good one of those in backlund. The biggest hole on the team is the lack of a offensive 2nd line C.
I think if things don't start clicking soon, Sutter will have to do something from a line combo perspective.
Either moving tkachuk down to the backlund line to let him play playmaker (and tofolli up to the top line), or moving Dube up (and mangiapane down).
Not yet though. I'm confident that the flames will have a great start. But if we're halfway through the game and things still seem offensively challenged, sutter will have to make a change. This group can't get down in the series. I still don't think they have the mental fortitude for that. Or at least I am not confident enough to find out if they do.

They've been calling them wellness checks for a while now.

Yup can confirm, it's definitely called wellness check. I've done many of them. Honest mistake though I'm sure.

I think the Flames will score 3 or 4 goals tonight. They've been doing the right things and it will work over a series, even if it doesn't over a 2 game sample.

Backlund, as he has had to do most of his career, needs to get his nose even just a little bit dirty and stay in scoring or higher danger areas a few seconds longer, to support his linemates to keep plays alive and generate chances.
Shooting the puck towards the net and then peeling off to be “in a good defensive” position does nothing for the other two guys battling for the puck down low against 3 or 4 defenders. Even just a few seconds in a more dangerous position, at the risk getting bumped or knocked over, to establish a presence, make a pass, get a tip and maybe get some puck luck, is all I ask as it makes all the difference vs being 8 feet further away from the net.
He has and can do it, but it’s like pulling teeth. Again, if he was 3c, fine, but as has been the past few playoffs, he’s the 2c.

The Flames need to make Oettinger move. He's not scrambled much at all this series. Square to most shots.
Maybe part of it is Dallas have a really strong box out game but I know the Flames can work through it. I just don't think Oettinger has been making a ton of challenging saves as opposed to just good positioning.
Make the goalie move.

I admit I was vocal about preferring the Flames to play DAL in round 1.
I will personally take responsibility if we come back from Texas empty handed.

They won't.
And you can blame Trevor Lewis for trying to go between the legs on Saros...only thing more twisted than Saros' ankle on that play was everyone's brain at the Lewis attempt.
Lewis can also be credited with stage 2 (stage 1 was vs Dallas 3 years ago) of ending Rittich's NHL career after being totally unprepared to come in again, and made 1 stop in 4 Flames attempts on net and 2 GA. A few days later, Colorado finished stage 3.

There was a lot of talk in the playoff expectation thread about Backland and I took a lot of heat for saying he is the only weak link on the team at 2C. I hate to be right about it but there is no denying it. He is killing toffoli and bread. Doesn’t make any plays. The bigger issue, however, is that the first line has done sfa so far in this series. If that doesn’t change we are in big trouble. It all needs to change tonight and I think it will. It’s time to step up. No excuses.

Sportsnet West will have the star of the Flames game and so will TVA Sports2 and Trutv. This will happen if the Rangers-Penguins game goes late or into overtime
