I am hoping that Monahan did what was best for Monahan. He would have been damned if he did, damned if he didn't no matter the choice. No, sorry, nobody can sit here and complain that Monahan should've brought this up earlier before the trade deadline so the Flames could LTIR. Why? Because it is probably the same people that would complain that he is "forcing himself to remain in Calgary this year and next when we need the cap room to re-sign key players".

I just hope Monahan recovers well and returns to the NHL putting 30+ goal seasons again, and if not, that he is at least pain-free and can do whatever he likes - NHL or not. I have zero criticisms for what he brought to the team, and how he simply has never once complained about squat, and just gave it his all in his time on the Flames.

What a damn warrior. Not surprised that he was again suffering through another injury, he just hasn't been right for so long. I feel for him as I know this was not an easy decision for him, but again he knows what's best for him. He is only 27 and can recover. Looking forward to a hopefully healthy Monahan!

This team right now would be much improved with a healthy Monahan.

Next year, this team with a healthy Monahan means we are missing some key pieces from this year's team.

Sad to see now doubt. 22, 31, 27, 27, 31, 34, 22, 10, 8 goals throughout his career. He was a damn good goal scorer when healthy.

I feel that there is a very fine line between calling Sean a warrior, and calling Sean foolish for likely jeopardizing the rest of his career by willingly playing hurt so much

Guess we can stop throwing Monahan in trade deals this summer.

A 100% Sean Monahan would been incredible on this already strong team.

2016-2019 Monahan would be instrumental.

On the player side, hoping he can fully recover and continue to have a productive career.

On the team side, this is a giant lose-lose-lose situation. Monahan playing hurt likely made his condition worse. If he had surgery earlier, he could've potentially come back and been a useful player. His contract would've been off the books, and the Flames could've potentially picked up another contract at the deadline. Whomever replaced Monahan while he was having surgery could've had more development and chemistry while Sean recovered. Lose-lose-lose all around. A lot of that blame has to be on Monahan, for not admitting to his injuries -- the result would've really benefitted the team.

The team needs to be smart enough to know when players are injured. This Monahan fiasco needs to be better handled next time. Let a borderline #1c injure himself to the point where he can’t play in the league.

It’s been evident to everyone that Monahan hasn’t been himself for literally a year plus. Players don’t forget how to play hockey unless they get into off-ice nonsense. Loss of ability is almost always injury related and that it took this long to realize that is just super disappointing.

Hoping it’s not too late to make Monahan right again, the biggest hole on the tram is still an offensive #2//3 C and he would be the perfect fit.

Just don't see why people are always hunting for blame in stuff like this.

The Sutter interview made it pretty obvious, that the Flames were surprised that this injury is season ending. They didn't expect to have the imaging suggest that, and that he was basically fine until recently.

Not much smoke here people.

So he wasn't a healthy scratch then. He missed those two games resting his hip, then went back in for a couple games before ultimately pulling the plug on his season.

Edit: Just realized that was a joint interview with Sutter and Chucky... or, dare I say... the Coach and the Captain?

Another edit: Dammit. Sutter's wearing a black shirt and the arm beside Chucky is in a red shirt. Still though, the three people brought out to talk about it: GM Treliving, Coach Sutter and Captain Tkachuk!

He is injured.

I have a torn labrum and I can't walk around the block, let alone do anything at a high level. it's depressing and debilitating. Sean, gimme a call if you need to chat.
