I wonder if Vegas puts pressure on Dadonov to drop the issue by telling him if he doesn't, they will just trade him to another team and he will be ineligible to play for the rest of the season.

Well, he can play how he wants, or they can scratch him, and he will still make $5M. And then he can approve a trade in the off season.

Plus, players play for their teammates and maybe their coach. I don’t think Brodie dogged it after his trade got leaked.

He can play if traded, at least in the regular season. But he'd be ineligible for the playoffs. Or am I getting that wrong?

Easier said than done though. Someone has to acquire the $5M cap for this year and next, not be on his list, and want him for next year (or be willing to buy him out). Most teams have their 23 man roster fixed now. Also, Vegas won’t get the Kesler LTIR benefit.

A couple extra months vacation instead of toiling for a non-PO team might not worry Dadonov too much.

That would probably cost them serious draft picks to get another team to trade for a player that can't play.
I guess Arizona is going to make out really well on the deal.

Like all of you, I really can't believe Vegas was that stupid to not have anyone go over his contract.

man, Vegas is so screwed.

No traded players are ineligible for both

Well I can say I’m learning a whole lot about this, probably the same amount as Vegas management.

If the NHL screwed up, they will probably make right by everyone. This sucks. Vegas gets out of the contract, Anaheim gets a pick, Dadonov is a UFA with a special exception allowing him to play in the playoffs

The flames didn't have cap issues that they needed to drop Brodie to meet. Plus Brodie wasn't the one who held on a NTC-Kadri certainly didn't go back into the locker rom with open arms in TO but I'm sure that the management in Vegas will treat him like any other teammate at this point.

All this from a tongue and cheek comment...

Either way, it’s not on Dadonov. If Vegas asked and Ottawa lied/was mistaken, Ottawa should pay for it, not Dadonov.

This was a summer trade, well after the drafts and UFA day, not a frantic deadline deal. Plenty of time for Vegas to get it right.

I just mean that I think Dadonov won’t waive just because the team didn’t want him any more. But whether he plays less well or not is not really on him.

How is that making it right by Dadonov? He's owed 6.5M next year. Probably why he doesn't want to move to Anaheim, or at least a consideration, is the heavy California taxes compared to Vegas' lack of taxes. Just making him a UFA would be the worst case scenario for Dadonov lol.

The deal just gets rejected.

Could Dadonov be buried in the minors?

Right. Dadanov seems to value not being traded. He has asked for NTCs in varying forms in his last two contracts. He doesn’t want to waive. He’s owed a lot of money for the next 1.25 seasons, in a favourable tax market, on a winning team. I bet he chose his teams carefully, either for taxes, winning, or both.
