There's always a risk, Sutters style, injury.. etc.

Much better city? he has his summer beach house, warm climate NHL cities like in Florida, LA, Texas or Nevada come with problems even if they could find room for him.

There's a reason a lot of former players retire in Calgary..including Americans

Landeskog and Couturier fit the age bracket and recent production in the past two seasons.
Two guys staying with their teams on good contracts mean Gaudreau couldn't get 9 on the open market?

Landeskog could have got more had he actually changed teams...much more

Landeskog had more incentive to stay in Colorado considering they have a top 2/3 player in the league and a top 2/3 young defenseman recently locked up long term. Gaudreau looks at the situation here and doesn’t see the same long term pillars surrounding him he is likely not as inclined to take anything less than market value

I would call them fair deals - as should be the case when the team is committing 60ish million dollars to a player on a retirement contract. Both sides need to be happy.

Well again - we don't know what these players prioritize.

Philly looks no better off than we do and Couturier was willing to stay long term at a reasonable number.

There is nothing to indicate this except for the speculation of those who only seem to follow the team so they can feed off the negativity. I wonder if the Flames had a championship run if those posters would go silent or if they would find something else to put a negative outlook toward?

Nothing to indicate it? Well, except for the huge pile of glaringly obvious things that you continue to deny or ignore, coupled with the the simple fact that an extension still hasn't been signed.

I don't understand why you take such offense to people thinking there is a good chance Gaudreau will be leaving the Flames by the time his current contract expires.

Gaudreau is the best offensive player on the team and exciting to watch, plus we've also past the point where the Flames can likely get a good return for him in a trade, so believe me I'd be ecstatic to be dead wrong on this one, and the Tkachuk hunch too.

I don't take offense, I think it is people making something out of nothing so they can ride that negativity train. The player has expressed a desire to stay, the team has said they are working on negotiations. Exactly what glaring obvious things are you speaking of that are not negative speculation? If you were a Panthers fan would you be touting that Barkov was as good as gone? I mean he has been silent as far as I can tell, had never said he wants to stay in Florida during media so surely he is history. Actually, there are a bunch of pending UFA's that must be all clambering to test free agency right? BT says negotiations are ongoing and from that posters are reading that he is leaving? Seems ridiculous to me. As for Tkachuk, a disgruntled former player with zero reputation as an insider starts a rumour and that is valid? Sure, maybe Tkachuk decides he wants to leave but he could just as easily stay, we don't know. Saying it is likely that both players are likely not here in 2 years is untrue, if you look at what teams do to keep their young stars it is far more likely at least one and probably both are still here.

Players like this always express a desire to stay where they are, until they are gone.

And do I really have to point out the glaringly obvious reasons for him to go? They've been covered ad nauseum.

I willingly concede there is a chance he stays, and I hope he does.

Very unlikely at this point though, no matter what he says to the media. He's not going to make himself look like he's just playing out the string here until his contract ends.

You mean the reasons people fabricate to fit that agenda? Ask yourself this, why would Gaudreau point out he has never said he didn't want to be here and he would love to stay if he didn't? Why wouldn't he have given a nonchalant answer like Tkachuk did? That makes no sense at all. It is simply people reaching for something to authenticate a terrible journalists take.

He's an American player playing in a small Canadian market far away from his family who he is close with. His wife is a nurse working in Philly, his favorite team growing up was the Flyers, and he chooses to live out in that area in the off season. Also, the small market Canadian team he currently plays for is not a contender and more like a sinking ship.

He has a ton of reasons to leave and not many reasons to stay.

None of this is "fabricated" lol

I guess we'll see soon enough.

Simply agreeing with certain predictions.

I am a big JG fan and hope he signs long term ASAP. He’s a star in this league and probably our most talented player.

JG certainly has said all the right things. I am concerned however about Tkachuk wanting to be here long term. His comments are frustrating and kinda tiring.

Not to be overly negative, but what are the chances I can find some similar statements from, say, Tavares a year before he went UFA?

JG is headed out as soon as he can. His wife being a nurse in the states can’t be understated - Val Bure pt 2 incoming

Why would his wife making 80k a year in the states as a nurse decide where a player who will make $100 million career earnings live? Weird post.

Or maybe his wife will take a job here. Maybe when they look at where they would like to bring children up they think Canada is better. Lots of factors we can speculate on but that is all we can do.

The Calgary Flames are not and have never been smart enough to trade a player when it makes the most sense for THEM.

It’s always done when things have become so radioactive that skin has begun sloughing off other members of the team.

The Flames need to address Gaudreau and Tkachuk asap. Until then there will be an ever darkening cloud hanging over the whole team!

I thought that when they traded Hamilton, it was a good trade. He didn't fit with the room at the time, but he didn't ask to be traded. The Flames got a pretty good package for the player. We still have Lindholm, and Hanifin on value contracts, while Carolina is left with prospects from the Fox deal.
