Edmonton just gave up a 3rd and a roster player for a dman that's sucked for years and would have been the worst dman on the Flames last year.
Gio easily gets a 1st at the deadline even if it's undeserved and just on name alone.
For the sake of argument, even if he doesn't, I don't think a 4th line centre interests them more. They can easily fill that role elsewhere, hell they can just wait an extra week and sign Ryan anyway, get both him and Gio
The only way they don't take Gio is if Calgary does something dumb like Button suggested on TSN and protect Gawdin over Backlund

It is, but we have 7 years of historical data to predict what he will or won't do.

I’m fine with the Flames using 3rd-7th round picks. The team won’t be able to replace Giordano through free agency. Also, even if the Flames miss the playoffs in 21-22, they should be able to get that level of pick back at the deadline.

Come on, you're using Edmonton logic, you lose

We do indeed.
So what in that data tells us he would do this?

No one ever said "anyone with a valid opinion" feels that way.
It's been speculated that he could fetch that.
Others can feel differently.
Not everything has to be a fight. People can have different views and that's ok.

Is any of those 3 better than Giordano?

This is just BT using a useful idiot (LeBrun) to help Flames with the optics of losing Gio.
Seattle will want a lot to have Flames influence their pick (even if they were never going to take Gio). I doubt a 3rd would be enough. But this way BT can say he exhausted every avenue.
If Gio can catch a 1st at trade deadline then Seattle will want that now. They know the market as well as BT does.

Hang on, I thought all this was happening because Treliving is the most stupid human being in history, not Sutter.

Expose him and let the chips fall where they may.
If I was Ron Francis I'd take Kylington even so. Kylington is as much of an NHLer today as Kulak was when he went to MTL and he's proven to be certified NHL daily blueliner that helped his team to the finals.
Seattle is not going to struggle selling tickets in year one or two so do they really need a short term option in Gio?

No, but you don’t have to pay to get them (aside from the salary, which will be cheaper).

read/watch any Sutter interview re:Gio and it's clear he is sticking around. He'll keep him with Tanev for next year. Sutter mentioned he regrets not doing it earlier in the year, so i'd be shocked if it wasn't a thing for next year.

Isn't Kylington still a tirefire defensively?

We won’t get anything for him. We will be a bubble team and he will be kept using the phrase “our own rental”.

Not even remotely surprised. Gio is still the Flames' top defenseman and Darryl used him that way. Think people were just fooling themselves into thinking the Flames would just let Seattle take Gio and say thank you. Reading between the lines, it's obvious Sutter loves Gio and probably isn't going anywhere. Wouldn't be surprised if the Flames extended him this summer either.

Probably correct, but interesting that the Flames allowed a young Giordano to ply his trade in Russia over money, and now are willing to commit assets to retain him as a higher paid, declining player. Leadership is important, and he's not an anchor on the back end, but the performance of the team during his tenure as captain in no way qualifies his leadership abilities as indispensable. It's a generalization to say this is such a Flames move, but it is.
From a performance standpoint the job of management is to know where you are at when you are there, and this group has consistently pushed their chips in on a team that is a couple of steps short of the competition. If the cost was a third round pick, (probably not) then that is not a franchise killer, but it is indicative that management is more concerned with maintaining whatever it is they believe they have, and less concerned with making significant changes to move forward.
Most of us love the player, but all players should understand when they sign long term deals that they may be pricing themselves out of a market at some point. This time around wise teams will use the expansion draft to get out from under inefficient salaries, so let's hope the Flames employ a bit of wisdom.

Of course, but its a downgrade at the position, so not very attractive for a team trying to win, right?

Hot Take:
Trade Tanev after his resurgent season while his value is high.
Trade Gio at the deadline for some valuable picks.
