Genetically identical... Like twins? That's weird.

The issue with twins for a relationship isn't that they're genetically identical, it's that they're in the same family.
And in the case of Loki they're not genetically identical since they're the opposite sex, not to mention many of the Lokis look wildly different genetically.
I mean the genetics are just the blueprint to build your body, I don't think that would make it weird. I mean how many base pairs in genetic code would have to be different to make it not weird? 1? 10? 1 million? I mean all humans are something like 98% genetically the same aren't they?

The whole idea of alternate reality versions of yourself is a bit odd. In order for two people to be genetically identical, you would need them to be conceived with the exact same egg and sperm. Since there are hundreds of millions of sperm in each go, any small change in reality is going to result in a non-identical person. You could be in a different position, spot, slightly different timing, etc...It would take very little change to result in a different sperm hitting the goal. Now think about that through generations of people and evolution as a whole.
At best I think you're dealing with two different people in the same gene pool....like non-first cousins....
I would also consider people being genetically close hooking up icky though. If I was adopted and found a long lost cousin, they would not be fair game, despite coming from different families.
......alright this discussion is getting weird.

well yeah, we've only discussed the implications of having a physical relationship with your identical or close alternate version. we haven't yet started talking about your alligator equivalent and how that changes the equation.

Yeah, I don't think a physical relationship with your alligator equivalent is really a great idea.

Was the alligator Loki a regular Loki that got turned into an alligator? Loki is a frost giant. Is he from a reality where all frost giants evolved into alligators instead?

Also, why is nobody talking about Frog Thor? Is he from the same universe as Alligator Loki?

I actually think the correct analogy in your example would be a sibling.
Obviously if frost giant genetics are similar to Humans, at the very least they are the products of different sperm, possibly the same egg, in either case same parents different gametes. So at most they are just slightly closer than your typical sibling, and at least just your run of the mill full on siblings genetically speaking.
But then we're losing sight of a braided deterministic time stream the pushes itself towards a defined conclusion. If this is the mythos we are working with (which is seems to be, although possibly not guided by natural forces) they are almost certainly closer than run of the mill siblings, they might be identical on 25 out of 26 chromosomes, and just that one little arm on the 13th chromosome is a little longer than it is supposed to be.

Isn't that assuming that everyone before them was exactly identical, though? Couldn't it be argued that maybe the Laufey from Sylvie's reality was slightly different from Loki's Laufey, and on and on? The idea being that maybe everything leading up to the birth of *a* Loki was just similar enough to get to that point, but the cumulative effect of all the changes before it tips the scales the tiniest bit and instead of Loki you end up with Sylvie?

I tried to watch it Wednesday and the sound was all over the place and cutting out; tried again Thursday and it was fine. Maybe internet speed fluctuations? I find Disney+ is way more variable in streaming quality than Netflix.

It has to be identical enough to ensure that the TVA is still in control at the end of the time or it would have been pruned.

Yeah same. I might even go with future main Loki who's destined to take over if he betrays Sylvie but this one finally, and completely paradoxically, doesn't follow through with his betrayal. Might explain the super nexus event because this Loki can't get too close to her.

Sylvie’s betrayal of him will be all the better when he chooses not be the the ruler at the end of time and Sylvie does because this relationship is only one way.

I really don't see Loki being the big bad here, the whole theme of this series so far has been him fighting against pre-determined destiny, it'd be a pretty lazy copout to have that mean nothing in the end

I'm thinking it's another Loki as the big bad (hopefully played by Matt Damon) and we'll get an after credits scene where Ravonna meets Kang.
