The proof that Johnny wants to stay will only come when and if he signs an extension.
Unlike Taveras, I doubt the Flames wait until he is a UFA to see if he will return. I assume they are talking contract with him now, even if they can't sign him now. may as well see waht the numbers look like. I bet Johnny wants to have some idea what his market value may be.
Is Johnny the type of player to bet on himself having a big year next year, which could increase his value quite a bit?
Is Calgary willing to make the same bet in advance of seeing if his apparent resurgence under Sutter will continue next year against much stronger competition? The Pacific division next year won't be largely any better than the Canadian division was this year, except they won't be playing 100% of their games against those opponents.
If Johnny truly wants to stay in Calgary, we shouldn't have to wait to long to find out.

"Most likely" is up for serious debate.

O.K. there has been a lot of talk on whether or not MacTavish has actually done a good job for us, most fans on this board are very basic in their analysis and I feel would change their opinion entirely if the team was successful.

I dunno. Each day that passes with him not being canned significantly increases the probability he won't be.

Exactly how I feel. Add Eichel without giving up the core pieces, or rebuild. Of course the Flames will probably half ass whichever direction they chose to go.
Johnny with this core is pointless

Sign Gaudreau to a long term deal if it's reasonable, $8.5 x 8 would be my max. If not signed by the draft then you trade him.

Disagree. I saw Sutter raise his eyebrow at a question about the team so Treliving is fired for sure.

Hailey Salvain on Twitter
“GM Brad Treliving says there haven’t been any talks about his future at this point.
But says he’ll have a review with ownership in the coming days, as he always does at the end of each season.”
He hasn’t had his review yet. If he still has a job by the conference finals I think he is safe

I think we should scrap and redo this poll. After today I think I am leaning towards signing rather than trading

He desired to stay.... at the right price which is what every player says...
I don't believe Calgary will land Eichel so trade Johnny and Matthew for a Colorado type haul for duchene . That would set up Calgary prospect pipeline for a LONG time.

Ask yourselves one question. Does Johnny THRIVE in the playoffs? If yes, then you sign him. If no, then you trade him.

Johnny isn't going to want to stay and I don't think we should keep him anyways. He's a secondary player and we shouldn't be pouring a boat load of cash into a secondary player long term when this team is on the path to a rebuild anyways. By the time this team is any good Johnny is going to be hogging a bunch of cap space and not producing anywhere near the cap hit. A contender who has some elite players in place and needs some extra offense should sign him and he can really boost their offense for the next 4 years. The Flames are the exact opposite of this.

Gaudreau and Monahan should have been traded before this season. It was the perfect opportunity to tank in an empty stadium. This franchise is such a joke. They can’t seem to learn from the past. The way iginla and kipper were wasted as assets at the end of their careers was a travesty. You need to quickly identify what your odds of making a deep playoff run are. If they are low, rebuild. This constant train of finishing middle of the pack needs to end. Either be really good or be really bad. To paraphrase Don Cherry, this isn’t rocket surgery!

Tkachuk has gotta go; Johnny is the top line winger who can put up 90 points with the right guy IMO. 7 x 8 gets it done? I’m so happy he wants to sign the contract this offseason that’s big.

I don’t know that 7x* gets it done. And he can’t actually sign this offseason IIRC. But he sure could make some sort of handshake arrangement.

My understanding he can sign an extension on July 28, which is technically the first day that the last year of his existing contract kicks in.

I think people are voting to re-sign him because of fan fare and that he's really the best Flames to suit up since Iginla, but I think this team isn't winning anything anytime soon no matter what Johnny or the Flames say. Essentially everyday we hang on to him his value drops lower and lower like Iginla's did between 2009 - 2013 until we must trade him and get a fraction of the value. If Johnny was dragging these guys to 2nd round game 7 heartbreaks I might agree we should add to his offense, but they're not even close.
I just don't get it. Is it that you guys just wanna stay somewhat relevant in the league?Does the thought of being bottom dwellers for a few years scare you that you might take way less of an interest in your favourite hobby for a while?
Just burn it to the ground already. I'll miss Johnny but I'd rather lose without him and have some sparks of a winning future with the assets he will return than be in this same position 6 years from now and having nothing to show for it and get way less for him.
