I mean, Fox is great and all but he was never going to be playing games in a Flames jersey. And that's not on the Flames either. That's on the NCAA rules.
Good for him though, what's his traitor name though? Alan Fax?

Losing Adam Fox is a big blow to the Flames. Though, it’s a testament to the Flames scouts for drafting. He would be the clubs number 1 dman now. I don’t even dislike him, he used the NCAA rules to choose where he wanted to play. Can’t fault him for that. Watching him the other night, where he essentially played goalie with the empty net was a treat to watch. Kids a player.

Yup, the Flames could have drafted any of the other players at that area of pick and had nothing to even trade.

I don't know why, but that doesn't make me feel better at all.
It's like you and your friends buying $2 scratch tickets, the all of them lose but you win $100. Then you lose the $100 and the only silver lining is that at least you had $100 for a few minutes even if you didn't get to use it.
Fox was really a non-factor in the Hamilton trade. That trade gets done not matter what. It was known he wasn't going to sign so his value wasn't much at all.

This has been stated before with no evidence
Why would the Flames include him the deal as a non factor? Out of the goodness of their heart?
He had value as proven by the fact the Canes eventually moved him for two seconds when his risk of becoming a ufa was even greater
On what basis can you say the trade gets done “no matter what”?

It was probably a factor, like a 4th rounder would be a factor, but not one that would stop a massive deal like that going through. NCAA prospects that are determined to become UFAs just aren't worth a lot in trades.
Of course I don't know for sure, but the way I imagine it went down was Carolina was asking for draft pick or prospect to offset the chance of Ferland leaving after a year, and Treliving countered with the rights to Fox. Carolina probably knew it was a long shot to sign him.
I really doubt that Carolina wanted a star defenseman like Hamilton, but the rights to an NCAA prospect dead set on becoming a free agent was the factor that would stop the trade from happening. The Flames would have just included another low value asset.

Again on what basis.
We know what the player was worth a short-time later.
Two seconds.
That's also been what other at risk to sign good prospects have gone for in the past.
So why are we assuming his value in the deal was only equivalent to a 4th?

Patrice Bergeron is a heck of a hockey player. Still elite offensively and defensively at 35. Unselfish. Consistent. Doesn’t seem to get the recognition that the game’s superstars get.
Bergeron and Crosby led the scoring at the 2005 World Championships. If there were a best-on-best international tournament this year, Bergeron and Crosby (with Marchand) might still be Canada’s best line. Incredible.

True about Bergeron. He's just been so good for so long, people kind of forget about him.
He is probably the best all around player in the league, only behind Crosby himself.

The Flames definitely received some value for Fox, as I doubt the Canes do the deal without something. Maybe the equivalent of a 2 nd round pick? Who knows.
It is a shame things didn’t work out differently. A young emerging star on D would feel great right now.

It would be good to have a top line D on the team
Funny thing about Fox is the fans are annoyed at him not wanting to play here, and I bet the players, to a man, do not give a crap in any way
So even when the Flames play the Rangers one day, there isn’t going to be a face of the franchise guy like Iggy to take him to task.

Exactly. By the time the Flames play the Rangers again, I'd guess less than half the players would even know the Flames ever had his rights. If that.
Just sucks, since a burgeoning young star is exactly what this club could use.
