I am pretty certain that if we pick a defenseman in this draft in the top ten, he’ll become our best defenseman in a few years.

IMO we have owen power on our team already- Noah Hanifin. They are both large, not known for using their bodies, good skating d men. Have almost identical PPGs in their first college seasons (Power: .615, hanifin .621.) Would much rather get Clarke if we're picking a dman.

That sim never changes the rankings of the player, it only sims the draft lottery and assigns the player ranked in that slot to the team.

I did get calgary picking second 3 times out of the 6 that i did it. Seems high but we suck so bad.

First roll of the sim had Dallas and NYR winning the lottery, with the Flames falling to eighth. Do not want.

1. Beniers
2. Hughes
3. Eklund
4. Johnson
5. Guenther

That's my personal top 5. Power reminds me way too much of Myers, where his dominance could just be because of his size advantage amongst his age group.

Falling in this years draft won't be too bad, there doesn't seem to be many gamebreakers this year. As long as it's a top 10 pick it'll help and then next year really bottom out for a couple of years.

My early top 5 (Preference in order)
1. Raty
2. Eklund
3. Lucius
4. Envidsson
5. Berniers

The you can throw in Clarke , Johnson , Power, after them. Hughes is interesting. I just think the Covid draft is a bit weird. Not else has really played except the Euros and NCAA. And to have 4 players from the same team at the top is a red flag to me.

Any concerns about Berniers being an American playing college?

Not usually a concern with 1st rounders, since they'll likely enter the league in their draft year or a year after

Who is the best center in this draft class? What number do you guys see him getting drafted at? I haven’t been following upcoming draft at all.

Granted, I don't know really how to evaluate players that came up through the U.S. National Development system, but including his time at Michigan, he only has 35 goals/83 points in 102 games. His last year with the development team, he was only 3rd on the team in scoring (the guy who led the team is tiny 5th rounder only 2 months older). I know they don't play a lot of games, but I would expect more for a top3 pick, and one that barely missed being draft eligible a few months ago.

Just not very exciting numbers.

1.So far Berniers is the truest Center at the top of the rankings. He can go anywhere from #1 to 7. High floor low ceiling safe pick. Low ceiling as a lot of thinkers believe he tops out as a #2 C. He a super safe pick in a lot of eyes.

2. After that, William Eklund but everything I'm reading say he would likely be more of a wi ger than a C but he's listed as a C/LW. Again could go anywhere from 1 to 7.

3. Kent Johnson. Plays on Berniers wing but almost every scouting report has him as a C.

4. Aatu Raty. The 2nd pure center. My Flames top draft wish. Could go anywhere from 5 to 12.

5. Chaz Lucius. Could go anywhere really. His injury this year made him miss 30 games. But so far he's producing like a beast in his extremely sheltered minutes .
I've read scouting reports on him likening him to our very own Elias Lindholm. He's one of the younger players in the draft.
I secretly want this player the more I look into him. Seriously, this one's a major sleeper.

After that there's some later guesses like Mason McTavish, could rise but he is an OHL player who played in Europe. Apparently has the heaviest shot in the draft. Also, that last name isn't very Flame friendly. And no not related to Craig.

Seriously though, take some time and read up on those centers. Whatever you can get your hands on. Because mock Drafts have Lucius nowhere near the top ten but I think he's going to jump pretty high. There's nothing bad I read about him other than the injury and maybe improvement to his explosiveness to his skating. Truth be told, if he was healthy 9ne could make the argument he would be the defacto #1 as we inch closer to the draft.

Didn’t MacKinnon do the same thing? Was like a teens pick and then just skyrocketed. I could be wrong or thinking of another player in that draft. Maybe it was Horvat.

Flames will pick an American player who will do everything in his power to not have to play in Canada. Book it.

I thought Mak was #1 out of the gates. Loubardias was enamored with Horvat in that draft. Maybe it was Horvat.

Isn't that extremely rare for a top ten pick? Like so rare its never happened?

Part of me wants to acquire as many 2022 picks as possible and somehow draft Shane Wright.

Nobody in this draft is even close to his level, and he's the type of player we desperately need.

It is rare. But I think the last top 10 first rounder to do that was Blake Wheeler? I'm sure someone will correct me if I am wrong.
