Bit of a letdown, to be honest. I mean I really like Sam, but I just can't see him with Rebecca. He's just so... I dunno... quiet? I mean it's not like Rebecca's loud or anything like that, but she does have a very commanding presence in any room she's in -- and I just think Sam would get dwarfed by her. Does that make sense at all?

They aren't going to get together. It's a crush because Rebecca went to bat on the Dubai Air thing. There will be a crushed heart episode, with Rebecca's disappointment that her crush can't happen, and Sam having the reality of someone helping you not meaning they care for you in that way.
Good to see Ted's unending positivity having a gut check. Guy's happiness is a facade right now.

How does Sam have a crush on her when he doesn't know who he's talking to on the app?

I think he does, doesn't he? I thought one of the messages was that he saw her at work.
EDIT: As I type that maybe I'm misremembering because that's a bit creepy.

Yes, there was a message along those lines an episode or 2 ago. I think he knows.

this is the reasoning I saw behind Nathan abusing the new towel boy. Unsure of his role within the group but wants to flex a bit of power to show that he does belong where he is. This is just further shown when he takes a bit of charge in his personal life and 'suits up' for the game, only to immediately be overshadowed by Roy Kent in a suit joining the coaching staff. He feels very insecure about himself and his role and doesn't see where he fits in or if he's even needed on the coaching staff.

All the focus on therapy this season, meanwhile Nate's looking like a straight up sociopath.

Its interesting. As someone with a fair amount of experience both in Soccer and with Coaching, I feel that I understand exactly what is happening to Nate.
Coaching is a long game.
You should rarely prioritize any player over another except when the circumstances demand it, but he's like a child who constantly gets overlooked who finally gets that moment in the Sun and he obsesses over it.
Its like Al Bundy with his '4 Touchdowns in 1 game' memory. Yeah, sure, but this is sports...it is a very strictly 'what have you done lately' industry.
Sure, Nate got a great win. But he completely discounts the work of his players and the heavy influence of sheer dumb luck.
I mean, it was against Tottenham. I'm half-surprised they didnt put the ball in their own net!
But for Nate it shows inexperience and he is likely going to get cut down to size. And thats not a bad thing. Its not a fun experience, but often necessary.
I would imagine that if Ted or Beard get wind of what Nate says to the equipment boy he is in serious trouble. Thats the guy thats going to have to make an appointment with the therapist.

I think they're building Nate up to do an ultimate heel turn. My guess is that he turns on Ted somehow after a confrontation and leaks to the media that Ted is having panic attacks

Thats not a bad guess, one of the things that Ted Lasso doesnt really have is a villain.
We thought the Owner would be the villain initially but Ted won her over and now the staff seem like a wonderful little family.
They cant keep using Tottenham as their villains.
That being said, we could see the potential damage when Ted brought Roy Kent on board and now they have a pretty inflated coaching staff and we're being given clues that Nate feels like the odd man out.
They have said that they planned out a 3-season arc for the show, so I could see Nate leaving for a competing team and then them using season 3 as some sort of redemption arc.

I bet Ted is going to have to fire Nate or Nate tries to be the hero in a game again and they lose an important game with the blame squarely on Nate.

She embodies a masculine presence while Sam is a little more at the other end. In real life that sometimes works if each is comfortable in the role they play. I'd look at the age discrepancy as a bigger factor though lol.
Sam is probably what, mid-twenties in this?
Edit: 21.

Since this is supposed to be the final year, I think Nate may take over as Ted decides to return home.

That was a heavy episode with some fantastic character building once again. I'm loving the Jaimie progression but Roy's even more

Thought it was going even darker off the top (trail of blood is no bueno).
Roy hugging Jamie - I’m not crying, you’re crying.
Not a fan of Rebecca/Sam but we’ll see where it goes. My guess it ends up in shambles with a scandal and a trade.

Everything Roy shows how big of a softie he is. Each time he is with his niece it's true to character as he sees a child's innocence and need for guidance.
I agree with the Rebecca/Sam. There is no way it continues without a trade and Sam's family coming into the picture about how it brings shame on them with the scandal

Loved the episode. Beard running Jamie's dad through the door was awesome, and the character arc for Roy is just fantastic.
I'm also very happy with the arc for the Therapist. I was really worried early on that she would be a foil for Ted, but it's gone in a great direction, imo.

Well that episode was an emotional rollercoaster. I was already welling up a bit with Roy and Jamie, but when Ted finally got real with the Doc I lost it. My mom killed herself when I was 18, I was not prepared to connect with a fictional football coach on such a deeply personal level. Godamn this show is something else, this is gonna take a while for me to process
One last thing to add, Hannah Waddingham is an absolute bombshell with that green dress. I know it's probably going to end in disaster, but I can't blame Sam at all for going for it

Great episode. Roy Kent is easily in my top five favorite TV characters of all-time, and that's without even putting any thought into who the other four are.
Jaime's arch is absolutely brilliant. I completely agree with Hemi that Hannah Waddingham is flat-out stunning... and I'm pretty sure Sam is who Russ Hannemen had in mind when he coined the phrase, "this guy f****s."
