Thing is he isn't, guy makes under 7M that is not "the guy" money
Look at the contracts on the other side

Specifically the top line was a little unlucky last playoffs, and for last season that was a bit true.
But if you look at their career as a whole that’s not the case, I don’t have time now but I’ll do a playoff by playoff look for Gaudreau and as a whole it’s ugly at 5v5.

I think what's most annoying is that the team teased us with the Jets into thinking they could actually access their internal grit, turn up to play, even be punishing. Now they are showing their true colours again and it's so fricking maddening.

Johnny Gaudreau has 1 5v5 point in his last 18 Playoff games. And it was a secondary assist.
Only 9 points total in that span.

Gaudreau is a more of a regular season player.
but he hasn't shown he can step up in the playoffs...
I'd be open to exploring trade options, but you are losing a lot of (regular season) skill that would need to be replaced, as that is still important to have.
Frankly a lot of our top players have not shown up... excepting Backlund... and there's been some positive surprises in the playoffs like Bennett, Dube, Talbot

After blowing the lead in game 4 this loss seemed almost inevitable to anyone who has followed this team over the last 30 years. However it is definitely not over yet. The Flames showed some urgency in the third, hopefully they carry that over to game 6. I would love to see a big performance from the top line in the next game, my gut tells me otherwise, but I remain hopeful.
If it doesn't happen then there will obviously be a lot of changes for this Flames team in the offseason.

If Thursday isn't the last game that Johnny Gaudreau plays in a Flames uniform I would be absolutely shocked.

Then where is he on the hierarchy, what is a realistic expectation for playoff Gaudreau.

This reminds me of the Flames Wings series in 07, sadly there also will not be a game 7 this year I presume.

We had that swagger against Winnipeg and in game one.
Then Dallas pushes back and we haven’t been able to get the swagger back.

I think 3-2 Dallas is a perfectly fair split given the play so far. Even so, the Flames are totally capable of winning the next 2 games, but only if some of their more offensively talented players really step it up.
As much as it's frustrating to watch Johnny struggle, I at least get the sense he is struggling. Monahan and Lindholm look, to me, like they're not elevating their games to where they need to be. And with Tkachuk out, the Flames have few other weapons.
I wonder if Ward will give the D men freer rein to take offensive chances. Offence from defence used to be a Flames strength, and they have the horses, but it's not happening as they focus on tight D. I'd almost prefer they try to run and gun a bit more and see if they can win a 10 goal game, rather than a 3 goal one.

I'm at that point too. This group isn't good enough. I don't want treliving trying to tinker. I want a change in philosophy to team building. Flames are about as high quality a team as the coyotes playing this playoff. Flames would be ridiculed by every other playoff team. That's telling.
There's no blue chip prospects coming. The high picks of the rebuild have hit their prime and shown that they are secondary players at the NHL level (not drivers of a top team) and the team's vet, and arguably their best player over the last 5 years, has past his prime.
It's rebuild time.

They did it in game one of this series as well, and played well in game two as well. It's absolutely maddening how they've disappeared the past few games.

Also, where did all the big hits go? It seems like they went all out to start and lost their energy. I miss the bone crunching sounds during the Jets series and first game of this series.
I think the problem with Monahan is he is too reliant on Gaudreau. I have been watching him closely for the past few games. The dude can't make a single offensive play. The second he gets the puck, he treats it like a grenade and sends it to Gaudreau.. the puck usually never gets to Gaudreau or he bobbles the past because Gaudreau has also been horrendous.

I’ll be honest, I was sure Calgary was going to score there to tie it. I’m a fan. Calgary in 7.

I thought the third wasn't bad. Dallas really jumped on them early and before I blinked it seemed the shots were 9 to 2 in favour of Dallas. Thought they played better and battled the rest of the game. A lesson needs to learned, just get pucks to the net, how many goals have the Stars scored off of plays initiated from a distance.

Game Takes: Stars 2 Flames 1 (Stars lead series 3-2)
- terrible start
- better fight for the rest of the game
- too much perimeter play
- Gaudreau looked better
