Also, this was an important game for Jankowski to step up and show he belongs. I thought he did just that tonight.

Jets have no wind in their sails right now. Just felt like a beaten team late in the 3rd.
Does this mean Calgary will win next round. We’ll see, but I think they answered the right questions for this one.
|
There's no question so far that Calgary's in the driver's seat and has been the better team. They'll win this series and probably deserve so but the skepticism the fanbase throws at this construct of the Flames is 110% warranted.
We have seen now for several years this franchise play a good game only to slide back to lazy, uninspired hockey. A reluctance to drive to the net one game followed by a bounce back of a game or two to get the fans back on the roller coaster.
The problem with this BS is it gets nauseating. Choose a lane. Don't show us what you're capable of only to mail it in two days later. True championship teams deliver almost every night (not every night, but way more often / frequently than Calgary). Look at the Blues last year... grinding it out every night.
I predict we win Thursday and look studly again but then I predict it gets to their heads again and in round 1 we start all over again with this hot / cold BS. This team could literally be one of the best if they brought what they did tonight EVERY night. I know that's not entirely realistic, but it's also not unrealistic to ask for more consistent efforts- and by efforts I mean the hard things in the game. Blocking shots, driving to the net, getting hits to make the play... etc. They know what they have to do... they show us all the time randomly after they play like ####. Like tonight. Great, I really mean that.. it was great they played so fantastic... but bring it more often. Because honestly? We could be like Carolina and already through to the playoffs if they did just that.

Way better team than this Jets minus two of their three best players, but I'm still not on board. Not to be all negative, and will love (I think) watching them in round one, but this team isn't beating any of the four top teams in a seven game series. Maybe Dallas.
Long term I like the odds of getting the pick better. Could be our time? Finally? More in on that than fantasies about this team doing anything next round.

Flames have a chance to close it out - which are always the hardest games to win.
If they can bring the same effort and energy, i think they have a good chance.
it will be interesting to see how they respond if they get down early. Should be fun

I don’t really understand it since it should be a strength, but it’s noticeable to me.
He had a real solid gme tonight though.
Flames got some pop from the top 6 and kept out of the box, and that should be good to win against a lot of teams.
|
Hmm interesting. I think his board work in the defensive zone is usually very good. It’s the opposite of Gaudreau who is awful in this aspect. When the puck rims around to Lucic, I’ve noticed he’s very good at absorbing contact, reading the play and making the right pass or clear out of the zone.
He can also rush the defenseman at the point really well. When they hear the footsteps coming, they usually rush or thrown it away.

Both teams seemed out of gas for the 3rd but the energy and execution levels, which were close in the first, were completely owned by the flames in the second period. It was great to see the second line be a force on the forecheck creating havoc. That will do wonders to help open the game up for gaudreau.
Pp definitely came through again today. Touchwood, Talbot has looked calm, cool and composed in all 3 games so far.

Boy, Jets and Oiler fans are so bitter and spew such vitrol. For teams that have the Keeper of the Code and a coach whose head explodes when things don't go his way, their fans are pretty silly.

Reading the ATL report its amazing how much the Winnipeg fans in their sniveling and whining sound like Oiler fans.
They think calling the Flames dirty is insulting or concering. Screw that after yeas of being a soft team, I'm liking the reputation of having a team with supposedly a bunch of Raiders coming to burn down your village.

It's kind of amazing anybody thinks that Bennett hit was dirty. Hip to hip, from the side, no knee, no stick, no elbow, not from behind.
Just more brutal luck for the Jets and their injuries.

I really don't get this Flames are dirty thing, and I try to be impartial as much as possible. People are aware it's still a contact sport, right?

I rarely get angered by the ATL but that guy commenting on Giordano and saying he deserves to have his legs broken really pissed me off. That’s some pretty vile, classless, and disgusting stuff to post about another human being over the way he plays a game. Jets fans have proven themselves to be a horrible fan base.
I get the hate they have for Tkachuk. I get the Lucic and Rinaldo hate. I’ve never understood the Giordano hate. He’s one of the most likeable guys in the league. He’s not a dirty player at all, but because he kneed Perry once and McDavid fell into a post beside him he’s a terrible guy? It’s just pure stupidity.

That said, he has good positioning, can make good passes, and likely gives Bennett and Dube a bit of extra space out there, which they need. He’s likely a guy that will have a bigger impact as a series wears on — and I’ll give him the benefit of being a vocal leader and veteran presence in the room.
Bonus points for the fact that when he scores, I think that’s as demoralizing as it gets for the other team
|
He definitely has issues, but I think he’s been the glue of that line this playoffs.
The crafty passes he made with his 2 assists had me impressed. He probably should’ve had 2 goals today as well. He’s definitely not the black hole that James Neal was. I think against even heavier teams, he’ll be even more important.

Any links to the Bennett hit? I worked a long day and missed the game.

When 5 of your top 6 forwards pot goals and the 6th one was your best player you are in good shape. The Flames should win against this depleted Jets lineup and tonight they looked more like a team who knew what they needed to do.
Still some things to clean up but if they are ready on Thursday and can match the Jets intensity, they will win. Once the Flames got to 3, that is going to make it really hard for Winnipeg to win with the lineup they have to play.
