I don't know if this has anything to do about it and I am purely speculating but I wonder if this episode had anything to do with energy drinks and/supplements.
A close friend of mine is a cardiac electrophysiologist or an EP Dr. This is the sub-specialty of cardiology that deals with the electrical issues with the heart. This is exactly the type of specialists JBow is dealing with and having devices implanted.
He has repeatedly talked about the dangers of a lot of these energy drinks causing arrhythmia's and this get's even more compounded with mixing them with alcohol, drugs etc
I know how common it is for NHL players to wake up from their pre-game naps, grab a coffee, head to the rink and start their warm up. You will a lot of the times see them also drinking a red bull while getting their gear on.
Perhaps a bad combination of some alcohol, supplements, energy drinks and a long shift could have lead to this very dangerous situation. I am purely speculating with no direct knowledge. Just that one in a million toxic mix could have been an issue where a smooth skating 36 year old D man who's known for their fitness, collapses and almost's dies.
For all the beer league players out there and for everybody's general health, stay away from some of these energy drinks and don't mix them with booze, hence the warning not to. If you talk to emergency room Dr's they will tell you how often young people come in with A-Fib arrhythmia's as a result, those generally aren't fatal but ads a risk of stroke. It's a VF arrhythmia than result in cardiac arrest from my understanding and that can and will generally cause death within maybe a handful of minutes.
