Monahan also caught a guy but it was slightly off camera (Anaheim feed anyways) but it sounded like he crushed him. I really liked his game last night.

I also thought it was the first game of the season that Jankowski actually played well. That 4th line was engaged.

If Monahan ever got some toughness to his game it would be a game changer. I know he’s one of the most responsible guys when it comes to partying and staying in mid season form but he’s still a team guy. That’s potential captain material if he can put up points. Be a role model on and off the ice. But I’m a firm believer that a captain has to be able to be mean. And should be able to drop the mitts. I know a lot of captains haven’t/won’t for other teams. But I look at it as your captain needs to be the one to set the example for the rest of your team in all facets.

For a guy who played high level lacrosse growing up too, I would have thought he'd have some serious nastiness somewhere inside. I hope this is a harbinger of things to come for him!

I think he needs to earn his space out there. I think guys see him as a bit timid and easy going and they hack and whack him and this leads to a lot of injuries. I love what I saw from him last night. Maybe if he starts dishing out some serious slashes and crosschecks people won’t be so eager to hack him.

He doesn’t need to fight. If they know you will hit him back with your stick, they will think twice about coming at you hard.

I don't really know where else to put this, and don't want to start a new thread, but does anyone know who the Flames new National anthem singer is? I'm assuming it's not Canyon anymore due to him being in politics

I've noticed so far from just pulling highlights that Monahan definitely has more bite to his game.

This was from Game 2 moments before Monahan scores, he hits Horvat then pops him in the face a 2nd time:

I think Monahan’s realizing (or remembering from his youth) just how fun it is to wreck someone once in a while.

I’ve always been hoping he could be a Lindros-lite type player. He’s got the size and the skill to be a player than runs over opponents while still keeping puck control. Love seeing him use it more.

I don't know what to think of angry Monahan. I think he gets missed in the slot a lot because of the fact that he almost never is antagonizing anyone. If he starts getting a target on his back maybe he gets checked a little closer and the scoring starts to go down.

Not that I don't mind him doing it however. Maybe it would end up opening more space for his linemates too and therefore be a net benefit.

I’m optimistic that it will be hilarious and amazing at the same time:

Well, except that Lindros was 6’4 230 and had elite skill.

Hence the “lite”

Holy #### I just looked up Lindros and he was listed at 240!! That’s insane. He was my favourite player growing up

There's a reason why Lindros was the next Gretz or Lemieux. And he was for a couple years. Absolutely unstoppable in the dead puck era.

Then those pesky Concussions caught up with him.

I've been noticing Mony initiating contact since the pre-season-not sure if he was told to up his physical play, or if he figured it out himself...
