I don't think he could have easily scored anything. The guy can skate and has some talent but he's saddled with a minor league shot and minor league moves. That breakaway attempt was so pathetic and Andersson brushed the puck aside like he was almost offended that a shooter actually thought a shot like that would beat him. People talk about the Flames bad puck luck of late but when you have a breakaway at an important juncture in the game where a Flames goal may have stopped the bleeding and the shooter takes a shot that wouldn't beat a midget goaltender that's not bad luck, that bad play and there's been a lot of that lately with poor passing and bad shooting.

Rittich had a shot to steal the job tonight and blew it. Its a wide open battle now in my opinion and I say that as a guy who's been pro-Rittich
Brodie is a big concern. I'm not sure if its a confidence thing or what but he is either giving the puck away or defending poorly of late. These weren't exactly giants out there who were taking him off pucks.

Brodie is what he is at this point. A high event player and when he's feeling it a lot of good things happen but when he's not it's a horror show. It's a shame because he's a great skater and has some natural skills but I can't remember a regular skater that has more defensive gaffes and miscues. I will be very disappointed if he's still part of this team next fall as it's going to be hard for this team to win in the playoffs with a guy that's so mistake prone on the ice for 20 minutes a game.

The Toronto wives, really, is that true though? Any pics available?
When I take my Toronto business colleagues to the games(not Leaf games!), they always remark at how there are so many good looking women at Flames games, which is not the case at the ACC. Maybe it extends to the wives.

Mid season is not the time to get a starting goalie. Not to mention that the options out there are pretty bad. Campbell from LA I’d have liked, but other than him the goalies on eliminated teams who are available (aka not Gibson/Miller/Andersson/Lundquist) are bad. Do we really want any goalie from Detroit, Florida, Chicago, Edmonton, New Jersey or Ottawa? No since they all pretty much suck and/or are overpaid. I don’t want to touch Quicks contract with a ten foot pole. Do I wish they had gotten Halak last off-season? Sure that would have been nice and I hope we do something like that in July, but the trade deadline wasn’t a time to upgrade goaltending given what’s available.

Full Disclosure: I didn't entirely abandon the game...I can't, I'm an addict I played RDR Online and had the game on my iPad beside me.
Didn't see a ton except the score, so no comments except I sure hope they have a better night tomorrow, I paid a ton for my seats in Vegas and SJ are only 3 pts back.

Frolik can spend the rest of the year in the press box for all I care. The minute him and his agent decided to complain about this average players icetime he's needed to prove that he's been worth the consideration, and he's garbage. Not a part of the future, and hardly a hot piece you need to showcase. He's done as a Flame next year, and not enough of an addition this year.
TBH, I wouldn't mind seeing Jankowski take his place and give us another face-off option on that line
Gaudreau - Monahan - Lindholm
Tkachuk - Backlund - Jankowski (3M)
Quine, Dube, or Lazar would be great to see here, but a push from our depth isn't what this team is needing. I'm tempted to mix up the 1st line, but Lindholm hasn't been the problem IMO and I'm not sure what C gets Johnny going

This season has been fantastic but I feel this success is a year too early for this club and they will be in tough just to make it to the 2nd round of the playoffs with the two goaltenders they have. This is why it would have been a massive mistake to trade a 1st round pick and prospect for Stone. I'm totally fine with that as the team far exceeded expectations this season and games have been for the most part fun to watch for the majority of the season. I'm kind of surprised how so many fans actually think think the latest hiccups are an indication they are in trouble going into the playoffs. This team was always going to be in trouble as they have largely outscored their goaltending issues during the season and that rarely works in the playoffs.

i wonder if its time to change things up a bit....
Czarnik, imo, has shown a lot of spark and energy to the lineup since going in...not to mention some surprising pop.
would it make sense to put Lazar in now? Maybe sit Frolik for a game or two so you can get 'angry fro' when draws back in...

Hahaha! No.
The Flames are a top-ten team in goals allowed. Rittich and Smith have stumbled in two games after winning seven in a row. I know it feels disastrous in the moment but this mini home-stand is not a microcosm of the season. It looks more like a hiccup than anything.

Could Care Less

Again I feel like I watched a different game than most after reading this thread. I thought the flames carried the play for most of the game and the leafs were opportunistic/got some bounces/favourable calls.
The flames had more shots, more shooting attempts, more scoring chances, and more high danger scoring chances. And it wasn’t close.
Everyone needs to chill the #### out honestly. Except about goaltending which could really sewer this team.

Very coach speak of me, but if they bring that game each night they'll be just fine down the stretch.
Even my Leaf fan co-workers saw the game for what it was. Andersen stole it.

Yeah biggest difference is Leafs buried there chances especially in the first, and then the goaltending was a mismatch.
It was a 1-0 game when Giordano got stopped short side blocker, Czarnik had a lame breakaway attempt, and Czarnik completely missed on an open net one timer from Giordano.
Any of those go in an it's a different game.
They didn't. Rittich lets in a weird one / softy to make it 2-0 and all of a sudden the Flames are pushing again. Then again Flames had a lot of zone time, get caught pushing for a goal, and boom 3-0 after the Marner breakaway.
I think one thing this team has gotten away from is being more patient offensively. They tend to be pushing hard again once they trail, and gripping the sticks a little tighter and that tends to end up in more mistakes.
