Lol if we had traded Valimaki I have a feeling many people on this forum would have been pissed. Valimaki, Anderson, Hanifin, and Kylinton is the future of the Flames defense.

Pierre LeBrun @PierreVLeBrun
Mark Stone says on TSN he's agreed to terms on an extension with Vegas. As per @TSNBobMcKenzie, will be 8 years and AAV around $9 million plus

Top pairing defenceman are harder to find than top 6 forwards.
I would not trade Valimaki straight up for Stone forget about the fact that Stone will be a UFA on July 1.

If the contract is $9M+ on AAV then my guess is the Flames backed away at that point.
Edit: And there it is Mackenzie reporting extension is 8 years at $9M+ for Stone - guarantee that where the Flames backed away.

Exactly. This has more to do with the extension than it does the trade. I'm alright taking a pass on him at that price.

So it came down to that. Pretty clearly.

Brannstrom is worth more than a late first round pick, as is Valimaki, as guys who seem to he destined for top 4 D or higher. Treleving thought it was too high a price, McPhee decided it was ok to part. Vegas is in quite a different spot than Calgary.
I am glad we still have Valimaki, he's going to be elite.

Vegas' cap situation is starting to look tough. In addition to Stone, they have to re-sign Karlsson and Nosek and decide whether to re-sign Bellemare and Engelland. They also have to sign a backup goalie.

Norm!

8 years 9 million dollars, would have made things tough for the Flames salary structure.

That contract would have caused the Flames a lot of difficulties.

That's a crazy deal. There is no way the Flames would have made that offer.

Overpaid and until he's 34. Smart play by Calgary walking away.

There’s only so much salary cap too and we have to pay Tkachuk

Good for Vegas but it would have been hard for Flames to fit that salary.
