Yeah I would really hate that. I think Bennett is going to be crucial for this team in the playoffs

Would rather add a top 6 scoring center instead of another elite winger.

I think Lindholm is actually a Centre who happens to play RW on the Flames.

Good luck with moving Neal.

They get more in trade if they allow it. They already know at this point whether they have a realistic chance of signing him (and it seems they don't), so the best return comes from a team that can extend him.

So Stone plan A, Dzingel/Hayes/Zuccarello plan B.
We should get a solid top 6 winger to join Tkachuk and Backlund in the top 6.
Wouldn’t be surprised if Frolik is shipped for cap purposes. Although I’d rather it be Neal

No 1 rule for big deals - if it doesn't hurt it's not going to happen. Everyone floating deals they are comfortable with better get ready to be mighty uncomfortable. See Hamilton trade as an example. I could easily see Bennett being part of the price. Would suck, but Stone > Bennett

Guys like Bennett and Neal seem to fit the archetype of NHL players that have another gear when the games get more intense. It's the main reason I am not ready to give up on Neal.
If he ####s the bed during the season but then pots 15 in the playoffs, then he earned his dough.

I agree. If I'm Ottawa there's no way I'm doing this without a young bonafide NHLer coming back, along with the requisite 1st and high-end prospect. If I'm Dorion and Treliving won't entertain the idea of Valimaki, I'm demanding Bennett to go with Kylington.
If it's Kylington + Bennett + 1st, I reluctantly pull the trigger.
If it's Valimaki + Bennett + 1st, that's too much.

ya the only way it'd make sense to me is to move Lindholm back to center.
Gaudreau - Monahan - Stone
Tkachuk - Lindholm - Neal/Bennett
Neal/Bennett - Backlund - Frolik
looks great on paper but sometimes paper doesn't translate to ice. Who knows if Stone will have the chemistry with Johnny and Monny that Lindholm has.
Also looking at that top 9, wouldn't be surprised if Janko is part of the trade package going to Ottawa if it does happen.

Said it in the Dzingel thread. Do not want.
We are 2nd in the league in scoring we don’t need a huge shake up like this to bolster our roster. We need team toughness. Not even a goon just someone who can go out and play a heavy game to get under the other teams skin and can slot in the top 2 lines. We need a Maroon or a Simmonds. Not selling our future for a soft high scoring winger.

I think that while the cost of aquiring Stone will be very high, and signing him will be expensive-he’s a very rare breed of player, and he will be absolutely HUGE for us in the playoffs and in the future. I say if the opportunity is there, go out and get him. Tre is a great GM, he will have a plan in place going forward. We can’t underestimate what Stone will mean to the club.

Edit- he’s also tweeted Hayes to Calgary? Does he ever break actual insider stuff or is he just trying to be funny?

People are always quick to say Toronto, but I don't think so. After the big 3, there is a fairly significant drop (depending on what you think of Nylander). But even with him, that's 4 big guns, then it drops.
Tampa and Washington are probably the deepest, then Toronto. None are better than that group for Calgary.
And the thing is:
Stone: 26
Gaudreau: 25
Monahan: 23
Lindholm: 23
Tkachuk: 21
Factoring in age, that's pretty much unmatched IMO

Wayne Simmonds would be the worst-case scenario, IMO. The last thing this team needs is another Brouwer or Neal-type "40-point winger." And Simmonds would probably command a first-rounder.

I think Lindholm would do well at Center, but his offensive numbers would drop.

I think you’d be surprised. He’s definetely no Neal or Brouwer. He needs a change of scenery but Neal and Brouwer have never been the player Simmonds has shown he can be.

Really? James Neal scored 40 goals and 81 points in a season once and has recorded 150+ hits in three seasons. I'll concede your point on Brouwer, although his age-30 season was very similar to what Simmonds has done this year.
And before you say that's because Neal was playing with Malkin, well, Simmonds hit his career-high of 60 points playing with Giroux. His career-high in hits is also lower than Neal's.

Literally just yesterday Duchene got traded for a package that didn't hurt.
Any proposal that has more than one of Mangiapane/Dubé/Kylington/Andersson/Valimaki is one that I am laughing off by default.
I really don't see Tre even putting one of those guys in the deal. Why weaken your NHL roster when they've gotten you this far.
