Don't care as much about the lack of throwing his weight as this is a skill league now but when you look at guys like Rantanen who have the size and can use it offensively and look at Mangiapane who plays with a bigger size than he his... Have to question why any message Jankowski is getting, isn't getting through.

I don’t know what he is anymore. I’d like to hear what Jankowski himself genuinely thinks about his own game and what it is.

I disagree, I think he is more Joe Colborne than Colborne himself. Janko is the quintessential Joe Colborne, Joe is just a close replica.

I am not sure what is up this year.

Last year he was quite good in a limited role. 32 points for a 4th liner is well above league average, his PK work was strong, and he was an offensive threat on the PK.

I didn't hate him as much last year as a lot of people seemed to. I thought he was ok on the 3rd line - not great, not awful. It would be nice if he played a more physical game, but that really doesn't seem to be his thing.

This year though he's been downright putrid. He doesn't seem to be engaged at all. Not sure what the issue is, but at this point he's one of the weakest links on the team.

It is just that he apparently stopped getting better. Maybe his getting traded to Toronto hurt his psyche and destroyed his motivation.

It is like his mind is stuck in the body of the the 6-3 160 lb kid the Flames drafted.

His desire to play a non-contact game is not a good fit on a team that already has a bunch of talented players that would rather play in a no-contact league.
There were five years of defending the pick before he played a shift - that's all I mean. I haven't spent a ton of energy defending Jankowski since he's been a regular.

He hasn't even plateaued, he has regressed. Just barely an NHL player at this point.

I see nothing from him. He isn't hungry and doesnt seem to want MORE.
We wouldn't miss him if we shipped him elsewhere ...issue is whod want him?....even as a throw in.

It's hard to believe but he makes no impact at all on this team....not even close to Ryan as I see.it.

Jankowski has good size and seems to have a decent set of hands. But, as others have mentioned, he plays with very little compete, desire, interest, aggressiveness or physicality. Until he decides to do so on a consistent basis he's going to remain the 'meh' player we've gotten used to. Unless he steps up the emotional and physical elements of his game very soon, trying to trade him this year before his value falls further is probably the way to go.

One thing with Jankowski that isn't reconciling with me this year are his advanced stats vs the eye test.

I don't think he's looked great visually but I do wonder if that's just because he's been a but unlucky and it's just hard to look good when the puck ends up in the back of your net.

He's played sheltered 4th line minutes this year but he's sitting at:

Corsi For: 58.9% (Team Rank 1st)
Expected Goals For: 60.9% (5 For, 3 Against - Team Rank 1st)
Scoring Chance For: 57.7% (Team Rank 3rd)
High Danger Chances: 61.5% (Team Rank 2nd)
Offensive Zone Face Off %: 41.43 (Lowest Offensive Zone Starts on the team)

Where he is struggling right now are the percentages:

On Ice Shooting Percentage: 0.00% (0 goals on 65 shots for with him on the ice - only 5 players in the league with 100+ minutes have a 0% on ice shooting percentage and him and Reider are the only two in the bottom 13 that have positive expected goals in that group)

On Ice Save Percentatge: .857 (Lowest on the team - 15th lowest in the league)

And it's these percentages that have him at 0 GF with him on the ice at 5v5 and 8 goals against at 5v5.

Hopefully the percentages do start to work out because if the 4th line can continue to win the battle from a possession and chance perspective then that could really help the team long term if the puck just starts to go in.

Jankowski and Reider together do seem to have some chemistry and really have been dominating from an advanced stats perspective - just no finish on that line right now.

At around the 3:11 mark Gio talks about the schedule and how for some guys the touches aren't there if you don't play a lot. This may be the case with Jankowski (and others) who have had a harder time getting on track.

I've been a Janko defender since he was picked. I thought he was coming along decently, albeit slowly, but that was always his projection. But this year? Yikes. Those advanced stats quoted above a few posts just make me think advanced stats aren't very good. He has been either bad or invisible all year. I think the team needs to stick it out in the short term, leave him in the press box on occasion, but I think this might be the end of the line for him on the Flames. RFA next year, not sure he is even worth qualifying at this point.

O.K. there has been a lot of talk on whether or not MacTavish has actually done a good job for us, most fans on this board are very basic in their analysis and I feel would change their opinion entirely if the team was successful.

I think he is out of shape. He looks gassed whenever he's on the ice.

Again. He has not been the problem this year. He’s a good PK guy. But he needs to produce some points.

The problem is that this sentence could also describe a huge chunk of the roster.

Maybe not THE problem, but He has been A problem and he hasn't been a very good PK guy (arguably better lately, but early on he was abysmal).

He hasn't contributed anything positively, when he should have made great strides this season.

Who is Mark Jankowski? A long shot 21st pick over-all that hasn't worked out.

He'd be so much better if he didn't just glide all over the ice. He just stops skating. He's not going to get many chances or possession offensively with the limited motor he plays with.
