Because he challenged the shot with good puck tracking. Hate to say but if that was smith he wouldn't have challenged more than push directly off to his off post.

Smith isn't having a bad start. He's having his typical start.
Team is gonna have to play literally perfect defense, and not allow any shots of net to win this one, which is impossible. Every shot against Smith is a threat, and that is tough on the mind to play with.

Sharks are not giving Gaudreau much room to get skating. That last play looked like all five sharks were swarming him just outside the Flames zone.
