Are you talking Ferland or Lindholm? Ferland, I agree, will probably be a trade chip. Lindholm? Not a chance - he's a core piece.

I think with all the rumblings of the Sharks being one of the favorites to win the pacific that the Flames wanted to send a message that they are not to be overlooked and could compete with the Sharks. The Sharks on the other hand were playing this game as if it was, well....A pre season game. The Sharks are an older team so it makes sense to not go all out in a meaningless pre-season game when you have a long season ahead of you.

My opinion on the 'vets for both teams...

First of all, it's preseason, and vets just aren't going to go 100%. That is a given.

However, with it being down to the last couple preseason games, and we had both teams going with mostly full lineups, and it was 2 teams that could well be fighting for the division, there was no one - including grizzly vets - that were coasting.

They weren't at 100%, but it was a lot closer than any prior games.

Yeah, this is more or less what I saw.

I thought the Flames were definitely pushing harder in the first period which is why they appeared so dominant.

In the second, it looked to me like the Sharks were really working to push back, and for the final 10 mins of that period it looked very much like a regular game in November with BOTH teams skating, hitting, and moving the puck quickly. It was surprising to see in the preseason.

I think the Sharks came out a lot harder in the third and looked to me like they didn't want to get embarrassed in front of the home fans.

The way Dube is strong on his skates though does make him seem less under-sized.

He's the same height as Crosby and only 10 lbs less. I'm sure he'll put on some weight in the next few years.

Crosby once upon a time was also thought of as a bit on the small side...but nobody brings it up anymore. I think Dube can generate enough lower-body power to play with the big boys.

Kinda the same with Mangipane too. Those guys are strong on their skates.

He doesn’t even look like he’s trying when he walks in and shoots. Just casually picks a corner.

Nice timely hit by Sam Bennett and predictable response by Evander Kane.

Helped seal the win for the Flames!

I'm liking the early returns on that Carolina deal.
My only hope is Fox goes to UFA. If Hamilton and Ferland are long-term pieces or trade chips I'm fine with that but losing Fox still stings a little bit, even if he wasn't going to sign - if he wasn't going to sign here why would he in Carolina where they arguably have even more defensive depth?

Things still look great with Hanifin, Andersson, Valimaki and Kylington but our RH dman depth sure took a hit in that deal.

I'm still very happy with the trade however!!!

Yea, and maybe thats a role he needs to play that the Flames do not have. A skilled player with serious sandpaper that can scrap with middleweights. Potentially a better version of Ferland playing on the third line that can move up in case of injury.

With Brodie playing on the right side, our RD depth is:

Brodie
Hamonic
Stone
Andersson
Prout

3 guys have to move out before Fox gets a sniff. With his size and lack of skating strength, that isn't happening any time soon.

Not to be picky, but maybe he will sign in Carolina because he can at least stay in the same time zone in which he grew up and plays his college hockey? It's not important to everyone to be close to home, but it is important to some, and Carolina is a hell of a lot closer and more familiar to New York than is Calgary.
