If all it took to get JVR was 5 years @ $6M per, I'd jump on it.
Should still provide excellent value for 3-4 years

Yeah, if JVR can be had for this little I think it's well worth it.
5 years is pretty ideal too in terms of when he's expected to drop off significantly.

Flames were on his list of no trade teams. Something to think about as there's likely little chance he considers Calgary unless they offer him silly money.

Considering the Hurricanes took the least amount of penalties in the league at almost half the penalty minutes of the Flames I would say his teams don't commit a lot of bad penalties after the whistle.

Arizona could really use a player like JVR. They've been very slow and steady with their rebuild, but I like the direction they're going in.
5 year term seems fine.
I wish the Flames could sign him, but it doesn't sound like JVR has any interest.

Keep in mind the flames have more than a few Americans now in Gaudreau, Tkachuk and Hanifin who could sway JVR to come here. He would instantly give our PP a shot in the arm and is a match at 5x6 to 5x6.5
I hope we get him.
Ryan 3 x 2.75
Rieder 2 x 2.25
JVR 5 x 6.25
Buyout or bury Brouwer in the minors (similar to Raymond)

I also wouldn't be shocked if the Flames utilized Burke if they were to approach JVR. Burke traded for him in TO and is obviously a big name in US hockey. Plus Burke has nothing but A+ great things to say about the city of Calgary and the organization.

That is a deep forward group that is improved throughout all 4 lines

No he's not, but he's not in any organization and just left the Flames on (supposedly) good terms. It just seems like something he'd go out of his way to do if asked. Unless there is some sort of conflict of interest I'm unaware of, now that he's somewhat joined the media?
